Graphic Arts 625 Ms. Cleveland
Course Syllabus Room D104
Course Description: This is a course designed to provide students with an overview of the graphic
arts industry and will give them an opportunity to become involved with hands on experiences in the
areas of lithography and screen printing. Each student will have opportunities to gain an insight into
the graphic arts industry in order to investigate a possible career. Students will be using Adobe
Photoshop CS, Adobe Illustrator CS, and Adobe InDesign CS. Using the programs and what they
have learned in class, they will create note pads, business cards, booklets, and a t-shirt design.
Classroom Participation: This course is primarily a lab course. Taking notes on all demonstrations
and content lectures is a must. Most course work cannot be made up outside of class. Lab equipment
is required for nearly all of the course work. Lack of participation, poor attendance, or excessive
tardies may result in failure.
Safety: A safe environment is an essential component of every lab class. The maintenance of a safe
work environment for my students takes top priority. Food and drink are not allowed in the lab
area. It is important that the students follow established safety procedures as outlined in each class
as well as use common sense when working in a lab environment. If a students behavior
compromises their safety or that of other students in the lab, they will be immediately removed from
the class with a failing grade.
Tardies and Cuts: School wide tardy and attendance policy will be strictly enforced! If a student cuts
class, the work will not be able to be made up.
Attendance: Good attendance is a very important aspect of a lab class. Any work missed during an
excused absence will need to be made up within 48 hours. It is the students responsibility to get any
work they missed. If an extended absences occurs it is the students responsibility to seek the teacher
out and discuss a plan to make up the work missed.
Late Assignments: Assignments will be accepted for partial credit up to one week past the due date.
Each day past the due date will result in 10% loss of possible points for a particular assignment.
Academic Integrity
Students are responsible for turning in work that is their own. Students caught passing someone
else’s work off as their own will receive an F (zero points) for that assignment. Students will also
receive an F (zero points) on an assignment if they provide answers or materials to fellow students to
aid them.
Tests
Students may use handwritten notes during all quizzes, tests, and the final exam.
