Renovating the To Do List
“Change your mind and do not bring disaster on your people.”
– Exodus 32:12
Hi. My name is Tiffany and I’m addicted to “To Do” lists. Many have tried to get me to lighten up
on these lists over the years but to no avail. Maybe it’s my upbringing in a hard working, rather
workaholic family, or maybe it’s my type A personality, but I just can’t quit making lists. You can
find them all over my computer, in my purse, throughout my date planner, on my phone (yes, there’s
an app for that), in my car…even in my Bible. I have managed to meticulously outline the things I
“need” to do in every compartment of my life. I am thoroughly convinced that if I were to ever mis-
place my lists I would loose my mind - that is until I made another one. Needless to say, I’m a “To
Do” list girl.
Recently, I was reading a book of meditations for parents and came across one that had these lists
as its central focus. What I found new and interesting was a very simple statement that made me
stop in my tracks and reflect on life for a few minutes.
“If you have to live by lists, put ‘Love My Children’ at the top.”
I got to thinking about all the things that usually make it on these lists of mine and realized, quite
sadly, that the simple act of loving someone, particularly my friends and family, never makes it on
paper. Of course, it’s always there in my mind and my heart, but why don’t I prioritize that on my
list? Other things not on my list: pray, journal, spend time with God and read scripture. I guess I
just assume these things are givens and don’t need to be written down because “I’ll remember them.”
But do I? What if it were as big of a deal to have something interrupt my family or God time, as it is
when something interrupts my work or homework time? What if I showed my family and my God
that they truly are on the top of any list I could ever write? How would my life be different if the first
things on my list or calendar were ways to love, care for, be attentive to and show grace to my family
and the One who gave all to save me? If neglect can cause my relationship with God and loved ones
to suffer, maybe I should do as Exodus says and “change my mind” about how I got about things. My
prayer for you and I this week is that we realize the importance of things and that nothing really
compares to the charge we’ve been given to love God, love our neighbors and love ourselves. So re-
vamp your “To Do” list and put what’s really important at the very top.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Tiffany A. D’Amours
Let’s join together as a faith family and pray for each other and the outstanding minis-
tries of this church!
This week, Wickline is praying for:
The People of Egypt – we pray for the people of Egypt whose homeland is in great turmoil. We
pray for peace within that country and the within its government. We pray for civility in the fight for
justice and for love in the fight for humanity. We pray the people of Egypt will find rest and hope in
the will of God.
President Obama – we pray for the president of the United States of America. We pray that he is
open to hear God’s will for our country. We pray that God pours out wisdom upon him so that he
might be the leader that the men, women and children of our country so need. We pray for his fam-
ily, for his health and for those who work closely with him. We give you praise God for your grace
which goes before him and your presence which is always with him.
The Children – we pray for our children. God’s children are OUR children too. We pray for those
in our homes, in our families, in our lives, in our church, in our school, in our community, in our
state, in our country and around the world. We pray for those who know Jesus and those who don’t.
We pray for those who know love and those who don’t. We pray for those who know hunger and
those who don’t. We pray for orphans and we pray for those with families. We pray for those we’ve
loved and spoiled, and those we’ve hurt and neglected. We pray for the child within ourselves who so
deeply longs to be proud of who we’ve become. We pray for the children of the past, the children of
today and the children of the future. We pray for the children who are and the children who might
have been. We pray for God’s blessings to rain down upon all children.
The Grieving – we pray for all who are grieving from various hurts in their lives. We pray for fami-
lies who have lost loved ones, children whose grandparents have moved away, grown children
who’ve placed their parents in nursing care, spousees who hold their loved ones’ hands for the last
time, grandchildren who prepare to do funeral services for their grandparent, husbands and wives
whose marriage has just ended, children who’ve been removed from their homes for their own pro-
tection, those who have lost a pet, and so much more. Remember those who have loss and lift them
up to God for God’s mighty mercy to wash over them and give them peace.
S.O.S. (Saturday’s of Service) – we pray for the ministry of S.O.S., for the men and women who
so faithfully serve it, for the upcoming Saturday of Service on February 5th and for more people to
join the ranks of this ministry to help it grow and reach out into the community. May all who serve,
all who receive and all who pray know God’s presence and power through this ministry.
AMEN!

The Vineyard Porch
Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to Celebrate the Child with you this
weekend. The children did a fantastic job. They worked so hard and gave God their
best! Isaiah 1:6 states “And a little child will lead them” Isaiah was foretelling of the
coming of Christ, But it applies today just as powerfully. I also wanted to thank you
for loving the children so much. I was moved to tears during the adult moment. To
have the entire altar area filled with adults was amazing. You showed the children
they are important and valued. Your openness to them leading and affirming their
role in the body of Christ is so important in their spiritual growth. You never know
what plans God has for these children. As we continue to give them opportunities to
explore what could be, God will bless us with experiences like the one we had this
weekend. I have been told on more than one occasion that Wickline is a great church.
Wickline you proved it this weekend. May God continue to bless and keep you.

CLUB 52 BANQUET - OOPS WRONG DATE!
Our Club 52 banquet is scheduled for February 27th (not the 20th!). It will be a wonderful meal pre-
pared and served entirely by the Wickline youth. During the banquet, we will be highlighting the
ministry of 2010 and unveiling the visions for 2011. Please mark your calendars and plan on attend-
ing.
Jesus fed thousands with five loaves of bread and two fish. Those digits combined equal the number
52. It is also through that number that Christ continues to change the lives of our youth. We ask you
to prayerfully consider committing a minimum of one dollar per week to the Wickline Youth so that
its mission and ministry may continue. For more information, access the youth website and click the
Club 52 link (or go directly: wicklineumc.org/club52).
