                                       Novel PowerPoint Presentation
                                               Group Project
              Task: Your job is to become an expert on your selected novel and be able to represent
              all elements of that novel in a visual representation. You will work in a group to
              complete this project.

              Procedure:
              Day 1
              1. Review very carefully the novel you and your group have chosen.
              2. Discuss the format your visual will take. How can you best represent the essence of
                 the story?
              3. Decide who will take what parts of the task/ slide
              4. Assign the written and enrichment parts of the task:
                     ~ a typed brief synopsis of the story
                     ~ poem
                     ~ 3 higher level questions and answers
                     ~ choice of enrichment
              5. Homework: Complete your assigned part!

              Day 2:
              Check in with your group and ensure progress.

              Content of Story Board:
              Your PowerPoint Presentation must include:
                     ~ plot line, antecedent action (if any), introduction, exposition, climax,
                     denouement, conclusion (major events only)
                     ~ point of view
                     ~ the characters
                     ~ setting
                     ~ tone of novel
                     ~ the themes
                     ~ style of author
                     ~ the literary techniques used by the author (symbolism, irony etc)
              Everyone should proofread the PowerPoint and add any missing information before it is
              presented to the class and turned in for assessment.
Enrichment of the Literature:
1. Compose at three higher level thinking questions which relate to your understanding
   of the story and which you would like the class to explore. Make sure your questions
   are important to the understanding of the story or the techniques used by the author.
   Answer the questions thoroughly during your presentation.
2. Write a poem that relates to your story. (min. 50 words.) Describe clearly the
   connection.
3. Find one of the following and explain how it enriches the understanding of the story.
   ~ a painting or sculpture (title of piece and artist to be included)
   ~ a newspaper article
   ~ other?

Presentation Day
All members need to be active members of the presentation. You will be marked as a
group and as an individual. If you do not talk, or you speak only minimally, you will not
earn the same mark as others in your group.

Your presentation should be at least 5 minutes long. Do not rush through your
Powerpoint.

Criteria for Assessment
PowerPoint: Contains all required material. Visual appropriately represents the story
line. Author’s use of literary techniques is evident. Representation is neat, clear, and
creative. Explanation is clear.
Enrichment Materials:
Comprehension Questions: Questions are appropriate to the knowledge of the story and
promote higher level thinking.
Poetry: Poem written clearly connects to the story.
Extension: Selection is interesting and appropriate to the story. Materials and connection
are clearly made.
Presentation: PowerPoint is effective and guides the audience through the presentation.
Presenters speak clearly and slowly. Eye contact with audience. PowerPoint is well made
and is not distracting due to backgrounds, colored fonts or unnecessary visuals/sounds.
