Shopfronts
Shop fronts can be fabricated from wood, aluminium or steel and are used
for large or small shops (with or without entrance doors and entrance doors
of office blocks, commercial buildings and institutions such as Tafe.
The fabrication and installation of glazed aluminium assemblies is by
specialist shop-fitters or aluminium fabricators who obtain the extruded
sections from the aluminium producers.

Rules and Regulations:
Codes and regulations such as AS 1170 (Design, wind loads, moments of
inertia etc.) and AS 1288 (Glass installation and safe windloads) effect the

Other terms related to shop fronts :
Stall riser – which is any wall construction below the window sill in a
shopfront
Ventilator – creates a free flow of air into a building. Sometimes
called a return air grille when fitted to a door.
Flashing – galvanized iron , lead or aluminium foils (Alcor) used
below sills to prevent moisture entering. Not necessary in a shopfront
inside a shopping mall but essential in strip shopping fit outs.

Roller shutters – as discussed in bulkheads to provide security with
or without a door
Window bed – internal display bed or floor level with the bottom of
the window.
Bulkhead - which are frames or box like sections often integrated in
the shop front or suspended above the actual shop front framing and
used to conceal lighting and suspend signage.
