Sharing
Sharing is a facility that allows you to give other users access to your
assets. When sharing an asset you can decide whether you want the
recipients to be able to copy, comment, collaborate or view your assets.
You can also set a time limit after which the people you share with will
no longer be able to open your asset and allow people to re-share your
items to others via the cascade permission.
You can also view a help movie to see how to share an asset and what
sharing options are available to you. There is also more help of sharing
in the received assets section.
Assets can be shared with other PebblePad users or with any
external person with an email address.
The sharing option is available from the last page of a pad when
creating an asset, and on the overview pad which displays when you
click on an item in the view list.
The overview or end pad include options to share assets.
From either the overview pad or the end pad move the mouse over
send to and click on person
The my community pads will appear to enable you to add people you
wish to share with.
If the people you wish to share with are already in your community
they will be listed on the left of the screen. Click on a person to add
and then click on the chevrons to add them to the sharees list.
If the person or people you wish to share with are not yet in your
community you will have to add them via the add a contact tab.
Add a contact
First click on the add a contact tab on the top right of the my
community pad. If you know the person has a PebblePad account
you can add them to your community by clicking on PebblePad
users option and typing in their name. You do not need to fill both
forename and surname areas although you may get a more accurate
result if you do. Once you have typed in a name click on the
magnifying glass icon to perform a search. You will see a list of
possible matches in a list, click on the one you wish to select and
then click on the green tick to add the contact.
If the person you want to contact is an external user click the
external user icon, this will then bring up a forename, surname and
email address box. The contacts details will then be stored along
with all your other contact details.
Once you have added someone they will be available in your my
community list for future use.
You can add as many people to the sharee list as you feel
appropriate. Once the list is complete click on the number two button
to move to stage two of the sharing process.
The second stage of sharing allows you to decide what permissions
you are going to give to the people you are sharing with.
There are a number of check boxes for you to select to grant different
levels of permission these include;
View allows recipients to only see the asset (view is
always selected by default). The sub-permission
grade/feedback allows the viewer to see any grades or
feedback given by an assessor or tutor
Comment allows users to add comments to your asset
Copy gives users the option of saving a copy of your asset
into their set of assets. Please note that all links within the
asset will also be copied
Collaborate allows users to make changes to the asset
Cascade allows recipients to share the asset with other
people with view and comment permissions if the original
item has comments permissions
In addition to the various permissions you can also choose to limit the
length of time the share is available for by clicking on the share until
area and selecting the date you would like the share to expire on.
If you are sharing with multiple people you can create a group for
future sharing. Click on the tick box next to Turn these sharees into
a group? and a small box will appear for you to give the group a
name. To share with the group in the future you will be able to select
the group from the group tab when you are adding people to the
sharee list.
Clicking on the small notepad icon allows you to add a message
which will appear in the email sent out to sharees and in the overview
pad when the recipient accesses the item.
