This course covers the machining operations required in manufacturing furniture components from rough mill
through the finish machine room. Topics include safety; machine setup and operation, machine maintenance, form
building; jig fabrication; and the interpretation of route sheets and shop drawings. Upon completion, students
should be able to set up and operate woodworking machinery, interpret shop drawings, fabricate forms for furniture
components. This is a certificate-level course.

This course covers furniture manufacturing processes from rough mill through the machine room. Topics include
safety; setup, operations, and maintenance of machinery; and form building; jig making; and interpreting shop
drawing and route sheets. Upon completion, students should be able to safely operate machinery, do basic setups,
and interpret furniture shop drawings and route sheets. This is a certificate-level course.

This course covers the sanding and assembly operations used in manufacturing furniture components. Topics
include safety, machine set-up and operation, machine maintenance, sandpaper identification and selection,
assembly techniques and methodologies, inspection, and white wood repair. Upon completion, students should be
able to set up and operate sanding equipment, assemble completed cases, and perform minor white wood repair.
This is a certificate-level course.

This course covers assembly of different kinds of furniture. Emphasis is placed on the use of standard fasteners,
clamping techniques, and white-wood sanding. Upon completion, students should be able to assemble various

This course covers the techniques and procedures required to finish and deluxe furniture casings. Topics include
safety, finishing materials, finishing steps, spray gun operation, padding and blazing techniques, sealer sanding,
laying plastic, inspection, and touch-up repair. Upon completion, students should be able to apply finish materials to
furniture cases, inspect, and perform minor repairs. This is a certificate-level course.

This course covers the machining and processing of furniture parts from the rough end through the finish machine
department. Topics include woodworking machinery, cutter heads, jigs, fixtures, drill bits, router bits, bandsaw
blades, and the processes and applications associated with each. Upon completion, students should be able to
demonstrate understanding of basic machining principles of woodworking equipment from the rough end through
the finish machine department.

plywood processing, glue, assembly processes, and wood properties. Upon completion, students should be able to

This course covers the development of new furniture products through all phases of design and product engineering.
Emphasis is placed on drawer and door construction, turnings, veneering, laminating, frame processing, reference
sources, and detail drawings. Upon completion, students should be able to develop plans for the complete product
engineering of complex components and their final assembly.

practical applications. Emphasis is placed on gluing, knives and cutters, different designs and patterns, and effective

proper machine setup and loading, analysis of cut quality, and accuracy of knives and cutters.

This course is a continuation of FUR 119 and covers sanding principles, machine setup, assembly procedures, clamp
setup, and basic finishing methods. Emphasis is placed on types of sandpaper and grits, types of sanding machines,
steps in assembly, and finishing materials and application. Upon completion, students should be able to apply joint
construction, select proper material for assembly, and select and apply proper sanding and finish material.

This course introduces drafting techniques used in the furniture industry to accurately produce an item in the plant.
Emphasis is placed on print reading, lettering, dimensioning, orthographic projection, auxiliary views, section views,
and construction tolerances as they relate to furniture drafting. Upon completion, students should be able to
manually draft a chair and a three-drawer chest into three views.

This course introduces the development of bills of materials and route sheets used in the production of furniture.
Emphasis is placed on print reading, detail parts drawings, and developing bills of materials and route sheets for
furniture items using CAD. Upon completion, students should be able to produce a bill of material and route sheets
required to produce an item of furniture using CAD.

This course introduces the processing of lumber from the yard through the kiln and into the dry storage area prior to
machining. Topics include stacking, storing, handling, and grading of lumber with emphasis placed on kiln drying
and moisture/defect control. Upon completion, students should be able to use and apply proper techniques and
procedures for lumber processing prior to the machining of parts.

This course covers the analysis of costs required to produce an item of furniture. Topics include the costs associated

JIT, inventory control, bar coding, software applications, forecasting, and the processes associated with each. Upon

a furniture manufacturing factory.

This course covers the actual procedures of following route sheets, machine setup in the rough mill area, and
scheduling complete machining. Emphasis is placed on understanding drawings, route sheets, rough mill
procedures, gluing and finish machine setup, and scheduling for assembly. Upon completion, students should be
able to understand all route sheet instructions and phases of rough mill procedures through finish machining into
assembly.

This course introduces the principles and procedures required to lay out a furniture manufacturing facility. Topics
include work flow, capacity requirements, material handling, conveyor systems, machines, and the processes and
applications associated with each. Upon completion, students should be able to design and lay out a complete
furniture manufacturing facility using CAD.

This course covers the engineering systems required for a furniture plant. Topics include electricity, plumbing,
electrical motors, compressors, air exhaust and air make-up systems, machinery maintenance, lighting, heating, and
air conditioning systems. Upon completion, students should be able to identify and correct problems associated with
the plant facilities of a furniture manufacturing operation.

This course, a continuation of FUR 217, covers rough mill and gluing operations, sanding and assembly operations,
preparation of finish color panels, and finish applications. Emphasis is placed on completion of machining, boring,
sanding, assembly, final repair, color-step panels, and at least a nine-step finish. Upon completion, students should
be able to complete a furniture project including inspection for quality in white-wood.

This course covers the application of solid modeling techniques used to design and produce furniture parts.
Emphasis is placed on model generation of parts, subassemblies, final assemblies, route sheet and bills of material
development, and other old functions that pertain to the model. Upon completion, students should be able to design,
create, and edit furniture items with solid modeling.

This course is a continuation of FUR 231. Emphasis is placed on further integration of assemblies, parts, and 2-D

how to parametrically change their designs.

This course introduces the basic principles of interior planning and display of furniture showroom displays.
Emphasis is placed on floor plans, color analysis, lighting, furniture grouping and placement, and correlation of
finish, fabrics, and accessories as related to showroom planning. Upon completion, students should be able to assist
in the development of planning all aspects of a furniture display and/or showroom.
