This course covers the principles of planning and implementing general recreation programs designed for group
involvement. Topics include identification of recreation needs, categories of recreation activities, programming
formats, and integration of people with disabilities into general recreation programs. Upon completion, students
should be able to develop and implement recreation activities based upon participants’ needs, interests, and
strengths.

This course introduces the history of natural resource management and basic administration principles as well as
management related to outdoor recreation. Emphasis is placed on planning and controlling a budget system,
directing the finances of an outdoor recreation program and facility, and hiring and other personnel policies. Upon
completion, students should be able to develop, implement, and evaluate a budget system for an outdoor recreation
facility.

This course is designed to acquaint the camper with wilderness survival skills. Topics include selecting equipment,
bushwhacking, mapping, safety, orienteering, foraging for food, identifying and constructing shelter, and low impact
camping. Upon completion, students should be able to survive in a wilderness setting with minimum equipment and
supplies.
