EEV emission level compliance, the new diesel engines fitted to the Volvo coach range are the cleanest,
most reliable and fuel efficient ever offered by the market leading marque in the UK and Ireland.
Even quieter than its predecessor, the 7.1 litre Volvo D7E, featuring common rail injection and rated at 290hp,
now provides the power for the B7R coach range, offering excellent driveability and comfort.
The new B9R is powered by the well-proven, vertically mounted D9B 9.4 litre engine, sharing the same base technology as
the horizontally-mounted DH12E 12.1 litre of both the B12M (mid engine) and B12B (rear engine) models. Both engines
are equipped with a turbocharger featuring a waste gate valve, permitting high boost pressure and thus high power outputs.
The current engine range’s designs are particularly lightweight and compact, and quieter in operation, whilst improved
installation and a more efficient fan lower fuel consumption. Improved components, such as pistons and cylinder liners,
promote extremely low particulate emissions, and optimised compression ratios also reduce fuel consumption.
The various engine functions are controlled entirely by Volvo’s EMS (Engine Management System), which contributes
to the low fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions. The system also makes it possible to integrate advanced diagnostic
and fault-tracing capability.
