					ABOUT THE SCHOOL
       Cornerstone Daycare, Nursery, Primary School is built upon the solid rock Jesus Christ as
her Chief cornerstone. The school was founded by prince and Princess George Nnaji on 9 th September
1996 with a population of 100 pupils, six (6) teachers and five (5) non-tutorial staffs and by God’s
grace, has risen to hundreds of pupils, tens of academic staff and non-academic staff.
LOCATION: The school is location at No 145 Nike lake Express Road, New
                Generation layout, along Nike lake road, Enugu state.
VISION:        The vision of Cornerstone Daycare, Nursery, Primary school is to groom up pupils who
are intellectually and creatively endowed in their academic works enabling them acquire the
fundamental knowledge needful to help them develop their potentials and excel in their higher
academic pursuit.
It is our conviction to groom up students who are not only intellectually endowed and also possess
good character ethics to effect positive change in their world by adding value, proffering solution to
the dire needs of their community and society at large in various endeavors of life.
OUR LOGO AND MOTTO
Our school logo designed to capture the essence of our vision. Our logo is composed of cross, book,
stone and a student. The cross symbolizes our Christian ethos, the book signifies knowledge acquired
through the act of teaching and learning which is the primary purpose of establishing the school that is
educationally child oriented. The stone symbolizes the rejected stone that later became the Chief
cornerstone which ideally represents our personality and Excellency of enviable performance among
all our equals amidst their earlier despisement. The student represents the sum totality of all our effort
geared towards the development of the academics, mental character, and social facets of the child.
Our motto being knowledge and patriotism in the fear of God signifies the sum totality of our aim of
building up generation of students who affect their world positively via knowledge and kindle the light
of the message of the cross.

                        THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE (ORGANIGRAM)
    The proprietress is the over all boss in the school, spearheading the whole running of affairs of the
    school. The director takes directives from her, develops ideas and oversees the daily routine of the
    administrative work.
                  The Administrators receives instructions where needed from the proprietress/director and has
    her primary responsibility of supervising the teachers. The bursary department is incharge of school
    accounting sector and report to the proprietress.
                  The chairman and the school counselor work in consonance with the school administrator for
    effective educational tone of the school.
                  The security men have the responsibility of ensuring safety of the pupils and school properties
    while the drivers are saddled with the responsibility of transporting the pupils to and fro.

        Knowing full well that the environment that learning takes place is of uttermost importance not
only in gaining the child but also in the qualitative impact of the knowledge transferred.
The school is adequately equipped with comprehensive modern teaching and learning facilities to
ensure academic and vocational excellence.

SPORTING AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES.
        As the saying goes, “all work and no play makes Jake a dull boy”. Physical health exercise is
an integral part of learning as it develops the mind, brain, character and leadership attributes in a child.
        The school is endowed with the following recreational facilities.

      A standard Basketball court
      A volley ball court
      A badminton court
      Six (6) sets of table-tennis board stand
      A dozen skipping rope.
      An ultra modern recreational playing ground for the nursery pupils


INFRASTRUCTURAL BUILDING
        The school building comprises of
1.      A three (3) blocks of nursery section categorized as follows
              The first block contains three (3) large classrooms, an administrative office, four (4)
                toilets and one (1) shower bathroom system.
              The second (2) blocks contains, the bursary sections daycare and toddler section. It
                contains three (3) toilets system and one (1) shower bathroom system.
              The third block contains six (6) large equipped classrooms for nursery 1 and 3. and
                contains four (4) toilets and shower bathroom systems.
2.      The primary section comprises of one (1) storey building comprising sixteen (16)
        large classrooms. With six (6) water toilet system and two (2) shower bathroom system.
3.      The administrative library and computer hall is contained in an ultra modern edifice
        having four (4) toilet systems and two (2) water bathroom systems.
4.      A stand by electricity generating set powering the school.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS


       Julia- Gee Cornerstone School has maintained an enviable excellent performance both within
and outside the sate in all major academics competition and entrance examinations as follows:
In 2006, the school represented Enugu State at Abuja in the junior Engineering Technical Scientist Jet
Club competition.
In 2006, Cornerstone School represented Enugu State in the Science and Mathematics competition
STAN and took the 2nd and 3rd positions in the whole Federation.
In Mathematics/ Introductory technology (MAN) competition of 2006, the school got the 3rd position
in the whole federation.
In Mr. Biggs big Melody 2006 music and cultural competition held in Lagos the school took the 8 th
position in the whole federation.
In Reading and spelling competition held at Modotel Enugu in 2007, the school got 2nd and 3rd
positions.
In the 5th Annual national Mathematics competition for Nigerian Turkish Colleges held in 2008, the
school got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions and represented Enugu State at the National level.
In all common entrance examinations held for the past six consecutive years, the school has maintained
75% performances and above.
In 2009 Turkish examination competition, the school took 1st and 2nd positions at the state level and
represented the state at the Federal level.
In 2008, at the convocation ceremony of Caritas University, one her pupils was given a scholarship
award to University level for splendid exhibition under the umbrella of Young Africans Club.
In 2009 NTIC/MAN Mathematics competition Enugu zone, the school took 1st and 3rd positions.
In the launching of Super Wifi Internet Service by Enugu State government, thirteen (13) pupils of
Cornerstone School obtained thirteen (13) laptops for witnessing the programme while two (2) of her
pupils were given scholarship award to University level by the state government.
In Nov.2009,the school triumphed at the state level to represent Enugu state in the Nations Presidential
Debate and where eliminated at the quarter final stage.
On 7th march, 2010, the pupils of cornerstone school Enugu were invited by the officials of N.T.A
Enugu to perform on the day of international children’s day of broadcasting. There, the pupils
performed wonderfully well drama presentation of
   1. child’s right
  Cultural dance; and were praised highly by the members of the audience that witnessed their show.
SESSIONAL ACTIVITIES OF THE SCHOOL.
FIRST TERM

   1. EXCURSIONS: Pupils are taken to place of educational interest. Such places include:
    a, The media houses
    b. SEDE, Scientific Equipment Development Institute Akwuke.
    c. Railway Stations
    d. Airports
    e. ANAMCO and other reputable manufacturing companies.

   2. SPORTS AND ATHLETICS:
      The Management organizes various sporting activities where pupils manifest their individual
      talents in sports and athletics. This programme attracts both the parents and relations of the
      pupils and other interested members of the public.
         SECOND TERM

   1. PARENTS’ WEEK:
        This is the period entirely devoted to parents. They come to witness and inspect their children’s
academic performances. They also interact with the teachers of their children to ascertain the areas of
their weakness, while their various classes are attractively decorated with flowers and cardboard
sheets’ diagrams of various teaching aids. The parents make their observations and comments. After
this they sign the visitors’ exercise book provided by the class teacher visited. They finally sign the
main visitors’ book which is kept by the sectional head.

     2. LIBRARY WEEK:
         Within this period, parents come to inspect the school library. Book publishers also come to
     exhibit their different books. Some of the parents buy books that their children might request them
     to buy for them from the publishers.
         We usually have different displays by the pupils. They include drama, poetry, quiz and debates.

     THIRD TERM

   1. GRADUATION AND PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY:
               This is the time when pupils in the pre-primary classes graduate into the lower basic
       class. Again the pupils in the middle basic six class are sent forth by the management.
       Activities for the day include:
      a. Exhibition of science equipment by the school’s maths and science club.
      b. Quiz by the school’s maths and science club.
      c. Plays, drama and debate organized by different classroom teachers.
      d. Beauty contest to produce the Miss Cornerstone of the year.
      e. Cultural dances and calisthenics to entertain the audience.
      People from all works of life come to grace the occasion. Dignitaries like the State
Commissioner of Education, State Commissioner for Science and Technology, officials from the
government house and traditional leaders usually attend. Media house workers usually come to cover
the memorable event. Igwe Odezuruigbo 3rd of Nike is usually the royal father of the day.
       In the end prizes are presented to the deserving pupils by the proprietress of the school.

     ANSWERS
1.     Some parents, who can, bring their wards to school while those who cannot make use of our
        well organized transport system. The school has three buses: one 508, one coaster and
        one air-conditioned Toyota Hiace bus.
2.     Yes there are. The school renders other services to the young working mothers. We            have
an up to date day-care and toddler sections to care for children who are not up to           school age.
These sections are well furnished with modern toys, comfortable beds, televisions with modern
children’s programs to keep the children comfortable and happy.
3.    The school scheme of work meets up with the National standard. The school makes use of the
        National Curriculum for Primary Schools by the Nigerian Educational Research and
        Development Council (NERDC). This is in combination with the sate Government.
4.    Of course yes. WE have qualified teachers with minimum qualification of Nigeria
        Certificate of Education. Our team of teachers are tested and trusted because before a teacher is
        employed, he or she has to undergo vigorous screening examinations in both theory and
        practical teaching. Teachers in the school will meet the test of time because from time to time,
        seminars are organized to update their standard. Again, their day to day teachings are
       monitored and supervised by          astute supervisors.
5.    It is said that the taste of the pudding is in the eating. We do not want blow our own trumpet
        but can boldly say that the school has in the past 4 or 5 years running maintained an enviable
        lead in both internal and external examination in Enugu State as stipulated in the achievement
        records of the school.
6.    The weather condition conveniences of the children were actually what prompted our recent
        decision to change our school uniform to blue and deep brown. This material is made of pure
        quality material that is safe to the body and absorbent. It is also cool to look at and has our logo
        beautifully printed on it. You cannot get it in the market as it is specially printed for the school.
ADMISSION GUIDANCE AND PROSPECTUS
INTRODUCTION
This prospectus is intended to acquaint parents and guardians with the environment which their wards
will find themselves an admission. It contains the requirements of every child seeking admission, the
duties of parents or guardians, the initial problems to be encountered and how to overcome them.
        It is the intention of the management to create a conducive atmosphere desirable for effective
learning and teaching. Every parent has a major role to play, co-operating with management to make
their wards feel more homely, relax and be integrated to the social life of the school.


DAY-CARE/NURSERY OR KINDERGARTEN DEPARTMENT.
The department is divided into three sections viz:
     a. Cleche/Day-care section for babies between 6 months and 1 year. They are known as toddlers.
     b. Toddler from 2 years and Nursery for children between 3 years to 4 years.
     c. Pre-primary for children between the ages of 4-5 years.


The whole section is specially prepared for nurturing and grooming the children to the right type of
attitude and behavior prevalent in a good home. Each classroom is properly ventilated, modeled and
designed to accommodate twenty children. A seat and a desk are provided for each child. There are
drawers for books and food items for every child. Instructional materials are provided and displayed
for effective learning and teaching. Experienced teachers and attached to each class who cools off
children’s stress hormones when they are hungry, uncomfortable or up settled in the class. The
department has a clinic managed by a nurse. She attends to the kids from time to time as the need
arises. First aid outfits are provided for emergency cases in this section. Children take their lunch at
10am. It is supervised strictly by the teachers who inculcate in them good habits at meal.
       During recess period, they are led out in groups and taught a new rhyme, dance, jump, and hop.
They learn how to throw balls and dolls and how to manipulate equipments provided for them. They
dance, clap and sing to rhythm. To cool off stress and arouse interest in class, they recite poems, counts
objects and match numbers with the objects. Experiences and habits acquired during these exercises
increase their interest and love for education.
D. Fees
All fees chargeable are paid in bank draft and returned with the application form to the school
accountant. Details of these fees can be obtained from the management. These fees include:
   1. School fees
   2. Equipment fee
   3. Excursion fee and
   4. Transport fee (optional). This is applicable to those who wish to enjoy the service of the school
       bus.
E. RULES AND REGULATION FOR DAY-CARE AND NURSERY DEPARTMENT.
   1. Assembly starts at 7:45am daily, parents and guardians should escort their wards to school or to
       the collection center where he/she will board the bus to school.
   2. Every child must be neatly dressed in school uniform and his/her wear must be sparkling.
   3. He/she must be provide with a kit containing a food flask, a water bottle, some snacks and a
       plastic spoon with his/her name inscribed on them. Every item of the child must be marked to
       distinguish it from other children’s own.
   4. Every parent or guardian must register his/her name with the school before collecting a child
       after school. Unauthorized persons will not be allowed to take the child home after school.
   5. No child should be visited during school hours to avoid distraction.
   6. Parents should liase with the school driver to avoid missing the school bus in the morning.
   7. This department closes at 12:30pm. Parents must wait at the gate or at the collection center to
       pick up their wards.
   8. All inquires should be directed to the H.M
   9. All students must cone to school with his/her student I. D. card
F. PRIMARY DEPARTMENT {LOWER BASIC 1-3 to MIDDLE BASIC 4-6}.
This is an enlarged department accommodating 1-6 between the ages 5-11. it is divided into Junior and
senior section. The work to be done is graded at all levels, syllabuses and scheme of work into weekly
schemes and notes of lessons are based on them. Teachers employed are qualified, dedicated and hard
working. They have excellent communication skills and are determined to encourage every child to
reach his/her fullest potentials. They are experienced, highly skilled and committed to school
improvement.
       The H.M appoints sectional heads to co-ordinate the work of the teachers under them and to
ensure strict compliance to the scheme of works. He corrects and marks all notes of lessons and
supervises teaching.
       Weekly assignments are given and recorded by each class teacher as well as daily performance
of each child. At the end of the term the whole work is assessed, evaluated and finally recorded.


G. SCHOOL REGULATION FOR PRIMARY DEPARTMENT
   1. Assembly starts at 7:45am followed by prayers and every child must be in attendance.
   2. Lessons begin at 8am after registration and ends at 1:30pm with a short break from 11:00-
      11:30am
   3. Late coming is a punishable offence and must be avoided.
   4. No child should leave the school without an express permission of the H.M.
   5. No child should leave the class during lesson periods without an exit card from the class
      teacher.
   6. Loitering about, gossiping and noise making attract immediate punishment.
   7. Fighting and bullying of younger children are prohibited and any child caught in this act will be
      disciplined.
   8. Insubordination to the teacher, dodging and refusing to do assignments will merit some strokes
      of cane from the H.M
   9. Stealing is a serious offence and must be avoided by every child; offenders will be suspended
      from school.
   10. Any child who displays immoral act or caught in an immoral behavior will be expelled from
      the school.
   11. Pupils should not wear their friend’s uniforms under and circumstances.
   12. Every child should make use of the toilet or urinary whenever pressed. Any one found violating
      this order will be punished.
   13. Pieces of paper and all sweeping should not be littered in the school compound.
   14. No child is allowed to carry more than N100 in his pocket. All excesses should be deposited
      with the class teacher.
   15. No pupil is allowed to make use of balls and equipments installed for nursery classes.
   16. All pupils must come to school daily with his/her I.D. card.
   17. Under no circumstance should a sick child be sent to school by his/ her parent.
   18. Parents are mandated to procure all text books and learning materials from the school’s
      bookshop. Contrary to it will be unacceptable to management.
   19. Every child must belong and fully participate in one of these social activities in the school:
      drama, debating society, press club, cultural dance, Boys scout, Girls Guide, WAI
   20. Any child wishing to withdraw from the school must give a notice of withdrawal in writing and
      must settle all outstanding debts he owes to the school.
   21. Attendance to class is mandatory to all pupils and truancy must be discouraged by parents.
   22. Conditions for admission into basic class department are same with that of those of nursery
      department as follows.
   23. Incase of transfers from another school, the child must produce his transfer certificate,
      testimonial and evidence of having passed the state’s common Entrance Examination.
