About this Competition
This project originated from the Columbiana County ESC and has been extended to be replicated
at regional sites across the state, with a culminating event at the state level, utilizing
videoconferencing technologies. Henkel is our generous 2007/2008 sponsor, providing the first
place state prize.
Regional Competition
Each region will conduct its own video production commercial competition. The rules outlined
in this document were developed by the Columbiana Distance Learning Consortium for use in its
regional competition. Each region may develop there own criteria. The winning student or
students that created a 40 second commercial from each region will advance to the finals. Each
region may submit one winner each. The winner of the 2007/2008 finals will receive a new
digital video camera for the school from our sponsor Henkel . The final competition will be held
on Friday, December 14th 2007
Lorain County Distance Learning Consortium
The regional competition for the Lorain County Distance Learning Consortium will be held on
Monday, November 26th. from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Schools in the Columbiana ESC’s
Consortium are eligible to submit up to five entries per building. Schools with over five entries
should select their top five projects for judging. Entries may be submitted on Mini DV, DVD,
VHS, and must be received no later then noon, Friday, November 16th. Submission received
after this deadline will not be accepted. Mini DV is our preferred format. Lower quality video
formats will be accepted. However, the Lorain County Distance Learning Consortium is not
responsible for any loss of video quality due to lower video formats.
Classes may choose to participate in our regional judging videoconference from 9:00 A.M. to
10:30 A.M. on November 26th. Participation is optional. Entries will be randomly ordered and
played for our panel of judges. Judges will be composed of local educators, administrators, and
selected from local business and industry who have direct experience in video production or
related advertising careers.
Your school is encouraged to refine your commercials by having students and staff critique your
commercials prior to submission for our regional competition. Schools may elect to have
competing schools critique their clips for each other utilizing the videoconferencing technology
as video commercials are finalized.
Competition Rules
- Commercials should be between 35 – 40 seconds long.
- Commercials should demonstrate appropriate uses of the product – Duct Tape.
- Both the Henkel and logo should be included. Logos should not be altered in
any form. Color commercials should utilize the colored logos. Black and white
commercials should utilize the black and white logos. Logo can be resized but must be
done proportionally.
- Commercials should have the Henkel logo as the corporate sign off that should appear at
the end of the commercial in a small format at least in the bottom left corner.
- Any schools wishing to air commercials on local access channels or other means of
distribution must obtain written consent from Henkel prior to airing or distribution.
- Judging will be based using the attached grading rubric, which will also serve as the
scoring mechanism for the Finals.
- Schools must use Gray duct tape (no colors please)
