___ Community Partnerships Academy at Berkeley High School is a college preparatory small school that prepares students for

professions that serve community needs. We incorporate service learning throughout our program to introduce students to

professionals and issues in health, education, law and government. Destination: College members help to coordinate service

learning projects, internship placements, and our college and career preparation program as well as providing academic support

including lunchtime and after-school tutoring. Members work closely with a teacher to facilitate a particular program area. Members

can coordinate work hours around class schedules, but availability in the afternoon allows for more direct interaction with youth.

___ The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) is a pre-college advising and academic enrichment program that helps

prepare high school students, especially those who are low-income and/or first generation college-going, for higher education

including the University of California. Members will provide individual and small group pre-college advising and mentoring; monitor

students' academic progress; maintain a regular school-site visit schedule, and assist with orientations and events. All members will

be required to work 2-3 Saturday during the academic year and MUST be available to work at their assigned Partner High School at

least four hours a day/two days a week between the hours of 8:30am and 3:00pm. Members can anticipate a travel time to the

school site of up to one-hour each way.

___ The School/University Partnership Program (SUP) works directly with select Bay Area K-12 schools and community sites to

increase access to higher education for students who face barriers to going to college. SUP activities are directed toward this goal

by assisting schools and communities in fostering and enhancing the college-going culture that will help students meet their

academic potential. Sites include: UC Berkeley’s newly established public charter early college secondary school, CAL Prep in

Berkeley; an Oakland high school College and Career Center; an elementary school in the Oakland Fruitvale community “Think

College Now” working with families to increase their leadership and involvement in college readiness; and a new initiative in Oakland

Unified to support high school students’ successful transition to community college and transfer. Members must be available by the

end of August and availability between 3:30-5pm are preferred but not required.

Student volunteers at Stiles Hall are trained to serve as mentors and role models to low income and minority youth, tutor children in

structured after-school programs, and assist high achieving minority seniors with their college application process. Students

develop personally and professionally while addressing significant challenges that face the local community. Stiles Halls recruits

their own Destination: College Members. Contact info@stileshall.org if you are interested in becoming a part of their team.

___ Youth Radio promotes young people's intellectual, creative, and professional growth through training and access to media.

Through hands-on practice, working relationships with industry professionals, and journalism education, Youth Radio students learn

the basics of broadcasting and strengthen their foundation in basic "life-skills": verbal expression, writing, computer technology,

critical thinking, conflict resolution, and more. Destination: College Members will provide academic and college/career support to

high school students in the form of tutoring, one-on-one advising, and facilitating college/career relevant workshops. Members work

closely with the Youth Radio Education and Career Manager, and play an important role in helping the Education and Career

department effectively support program participants. Members must be available 3:30pm-6:30pm M-F. Friday 3:30pm-9pm

(optional).

___ The Y-Scholars Program at the Downtown Berkeley YMCA is a collaborative community and academic program that serves

and supports low-income, first-generation college bound students of diverse backgrounds at Berkeley High School. Over the

academic year, Members will serve as coordinators on the staff of the program, working closely with 12-14 Berkeley High students

and the students’ volunteer mentors, facilitating weekly academic support groups, tutoring after-school, and helping 2-3 high school

seniors apply to college. Members must be available to work afternoons, at least 2 days per week (2:30-5:30pm, Monday-

Thursday), and must also attend a weekly Thursday evening staff meeting (5:15-7:15pm). Y-Scholars coordinators receive free

YMCA memberships during their term of service.
