LPR
 License plate recognition
 An image-processing technology that utilizes
fixed or mobile cameras and optical character
recognition (OCR) to identify license plates.

                                                                         17

HOW DOES THIS WORK RIGHT NOW?

 In the example of U.S. Customs and Border
    Protection:
A camera at land crossings captures plate data.
 This triggers a registration transaction.
 Names returned can be run through additional
         databases.
A copy of the LPR capture logs is provided to NICB
      for access by law enforcement.

                                                                             18
