Interested in learning about the expansion of prisons and links between imprisonment and race & poverty? Want to explore the concept of restorative justice with community-based advocates doing the work? Are you willing to withhold judgment, check your assumptions, and exchange ideas in a safe space? Then come to this 90-minute exploration of criminal justice issues, what they mean, and what students can do. Open to the entire campus -- students, faculty, and staff. Facilitated by Carrie Donovan of Cal Corps and featuring representatives from Education Not Incarceration.

Money Management
You are invited to a special three-part lecture series by former CNN Business Anchor Valerie Coleman Morris on how to manage your money throughout your lifetime. This lecture series is free to UC Berkeley faculty, staff and students thanks to the sponsorship of the Haas School of Business along with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). The series will be offered on Thursdays, October 4, 11, and 18, from 6:30-8:30 pm. On October 4, the location will be 145 Dwinelle Hall and on October 11 and 18 at Booth Auditorium, Boalt School of Law. October 4: It is Your Money, So Take It Personally: How to get and keep your financial house in order. The most dramatic change people age 50 and older are facing now is that the retirement they envisioned is way out of the picture. Start early to look at how to make a transition from your full-time work to your "encore" career of later life.

The Center for Student Leadership is looking for one student leader to come work for us in Leadership Development Programs! This position will primarily focus on creating a resource library on topics covering different aspects of leadership and team building. In addition, this position will provide integral support to the Leadership Development Program Coordinator and the Director of Leadership Development. Someone with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and follow through is strongly desired. We are hoping that the person who fills the position this year is interested and able to work in our office next year with the potential of becoming the Blueprint Program Student Leadership Coordinator the following year.

Based on the philosophy of the UC Berkeley Dean of Students, the TEAM (Trust, Envision, Accountability, and Motivate) series is a 4 session training program that prepares students to learn cutting edge theory used to foster strong group dynamics. International Education Week 2007
IEW is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education that is celebrated worldwide. Universities and community organizations alike plan events and activities to highlight the benefits of becoming more globally focused. This year, IEW takes place November 12-16. The UC Berkeley organizing committee is currently putting together a variety of events and activities for IEW. Low Cost Self-Defense for Women Students Sign Up NOW! Space is limited!
CalRAD is a self-defense program using Rape Aggression Defense Systems. The objective is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations for the woman who is attacked. Oct 20-21, 2007 Session 1&2: Oct 20, 2007 Session 3&4: Oct 21, 2007 (Simulation/Optional) 9:00am-3:30pm Main Lounge of Stern Hall, next to the Foothill complex on the northeast side of campus Oct 27-28, 2007 Session 1&2: Oct 20, 2007 Session 3&4: Oct 21, 2007 (Simulation/Optional) 9:00am-3:30pm Main Lounge of Stern Hall, next to the Foothill complex on the northeast side of campus Watch out for additional classes. Basic Physical Defense, is 9-12 hours long. It is composed of 4 sessions; the 4th session (the simulation), is optional, but is recommended. Please remember, you must be able to attend Sessions 1-3 in order to complete the RAD course. To complete the RAD Program, there is a $10.00 student fee which includes a student manual and an unlimited return and practice policy.

Please feel free to bring a water and snacks for yourself. The Rape Aggression Defense System ( www.radsystems.com) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of handson defense training. The California Alumni Association and the Student Homecoming Team present Bear TV: Student Homecoming 2007! This year’s Homecoming activities will take place Monday, October 8th through Saturday, October 13th. Many events are planned including a free t-shirt giveaway, student performances on Sproul Plaza, and a large Picnic Day on Memorial Glade. On Saturday, October 13th, 1868 Cal Avenue will return to Sproul Plaza with food and entertainment from several campus groups.
