WALD Studio and William Armstrong Lighting Design were established in New York
City in 1995 with a commitment to the collaborative process of design and the desire to
provide quality professional services. We have over 20 years experience in theatrical
lighting design and architectural lighting design. Our small office of lighting
professionals work closely with our clients and their design teams to develop lighting
designs that are attractive and practical, as well as cost-effective and responsible to
today’s demands for energy efficient lighting. Each project is unique and is regarded as
such, with great care given to all phases of the design development, document
preparation and construction coordination. We strive to provide lighting designs that are
closely integrated with the architecture, while at the same time bringing light into spaces
that is well suited to its function.
Our work can be seen all over the world. The projects we have designed range greatly
in size, from large shopping centers to intimate fashion boutiques and private residences.
WALD’s recently completed work includes Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center;
Columbia University Uris Hall (School of Business); Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant;
Lambertson Truex (Los Angeles and New York); Tom Ford retail boutique in New York
City; and many private homes and apartments.

WILLIAM ARMSTRONG
Principal Lighting Designer warmstrong@wald-studio.com
Mr. Armstrong started in the lighting design profession working in the theatre where he
designed numerous theatrical productions worldwide, including both Broadway and off-
Broadway shows. He continues to work in the theatre from time to time, as well as
architecture. Prior to the establishment of WILLIAM ARMSTRONG LIGHTING DESIGN,
Mr. Armstrong worked for 10 years at T. Kondos Associates. He rose quickly from
Project Designer to Associate, and then Senior Associate, before leaving to start WALD
in 1995. While at TKA, he had complete responsibility for the design and
implementation of a variety of projects in the United States and overseas. It was during
his tenure at TKA that the firm began working extensively on a variety of international
projects. As a result, Mr. Armstrong has applied his lighting design expertise to projects
in Europe, Australia, and the Far East, as well as all across the United States and Canada.
Since forming WALD twelve years ago, Bill has had the opportunity to work on a varied
array of projects ranging from private residences and intimate retail boutiques to large
commercial projects. In addition to his extensive earlier experience with projects far
flung around the world, he has a now long list of completed projects in his home base of
New York City.
Mr. Armstrong is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and holds a Master of Fine
Arts degree in design from the Yale School of Drama at Yale University. He is a member
of the Illuminating Engineering Society (I.E.S.).
KELLY ROBERTS
Senior Designer, LEED AP kroberts@wald-studio.com
Ms. Roberts holds an Honors Scholar Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design and
Technical Theater from the University of Connecticut with summa cum laude distinction.
She began work in the theatrical lighting community, but she quickly moved towards the
architectural lighting profession. Ms. Roberts joined WALD STUDIO in 2006 and holds
the position of Senior Designer. While with WALD she has worked on various
residential and retail projects in the United States. In the spring of 2009, Ms. Roberts
became a LEED Accredited Professional.
