SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT: MORTAL COIL
By Derek Landy
The fourth in Derek Landy’s popular series, “Skulduggery Pleasant:
Mortal Coil”, is a book full to the brim with action, romance and an
array of funny and witty characters.
When Valkyrie Cain discovers her true name, she unlocks two totally
different destinies – one where is Darquess, the evil sorceress who
destroys the world, and the other where she is the Death Bringer who
saves the world from its fiery fate. With either one of these just around
the corner, a solution presents itself – but it has a snag. And when the
remnants, evil spirits that inhabit you and take control of your body and
mind, escape, her plans are put on hold … But time is not on her side.
“Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil” is an easy yet compulsive read,
with not too much dialogue but enough to keep it interesting. Derek
Landy’s language is current and believable, including mostly slang, but
is suitable for this book as it is set in 21st century Dublin.
So once again Derek Landy has failed to disappoint. I thoroughly
enjoyed “Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil” and should there be
another book in the series (like the ending suggests), I will definitely be
reading it.
