Oral presentation
Introduction
Good morning ladies and gentlemen…
My name is Sean Jennings and I will be giving a 5-minute presentation on the
subject of Adobe Corporation and one of its computer programmes called
Photoshop….
For any people don’t know what photoshop does it is a program, which allows the
user to manipulate and design images. Although the program primarily designed
to edit images for paper-based printing, Photoshop is used increasingly to
produce images for the World Wide Web. The program doesn’t just target
professional photographers it can be used digital photography enthusiasts.
This presentation will be broken up into three parts firstly I will be discussing the
history of the Photoshop program (when and where it was set up and by whom)
then I looking at the Adobe Corporation (what are the benefits for working for
them and dealing with them) and finally i will tell you some of its economical
benefits to Ireland and the Worlds economy
I would ask everyone with questions to wait till the end of the presentation to ask
them.
Body
1……….
Photoshop was developed in 1987 and released in 1990 the program has been
upgraded and re-released nineteen times. The initial software was designed by
brothers Thomas and John Knoll.
The growth in the World Wide Web in the past twenty years has enabled
Photoshop to step away from its traditional paper and printing programs to
developing its connection with the internet.
In addition to improvements made in the field of uploading images to the Internet
the makers have made improvements in fields such as user friendliness, up-to-
date technological break throughs. Thus enabling the program to stay ahead of
its competitors. The program doesn’t just target professional photographers it can
be used digital photography enthusiasts.
While Photoshop is viewed as the market leader it does have a very high rate of
piracy. A version of Photoshop with several key elements removed can be bought
for under €100 this is aimed at the general consumer market, as it is able to
perform simple tasks.
The Photoshop industrial standard version cost about €600 approximately.
2…
The corporation, which owns Photoshop, Adobe, was founded in 1982 in San
Jose and its headquarters can still be found in the Californian city to this date.
Charles Reyna and John Warnock founded the company.
Photoshop employs over 5200 people. About 40% of who work in San Jose.
Adobe also has major development operations in four areas of the U.S. they also
have plants in India and Canada. They have a minor plant in Hamburg,
Germany.
Photoshop has become such an established name in the technological world it
holds seminars throughout the World the next will be held in Houston Texas.
These seminars give potential customers along with loyal customers to see new
software as well as ask questions and learn new skills. The seminars have also
allowed companies within the digit design world to network with other
companies. There is a magazine, which is published every two months, which
gives advice and lets the public give their views on all things Photoshop.
3…
Fortune magazine has ranked Adobe as an outstanding place to work. It was
rated the fifth best American company to work for in 2003 and sixth best in 2004.
Photoshop believe that if their employees are happy coming to work they will be
more motivated to work thus increasing quality and production levels which has
helped Adobe to annual revenue of approximately $1.996 billion.
Although over 5,200 people are directly employed by Photoshop there is no way
of finding out the countless numbers of people employed by digital image
manipulation. In Ireland alone there are over 150 people employed in Snap
Printing. Snap Printing is an Irish owned design, print and copy franchise that
began operations in 1984. It now has fourteen outlets mostly in Dublin plus the
company have on-site facilities at Guinness and AIB . Snap Printing can boast to
work with 70% of Ireland’s top 500 companies. The Director of Franchise
Operations Ed Murphy puts the success of Snap down to being powered by
Adobe products.
Conclusion
It is true to say that Photoshop has become more than just a piece of software it has
become an institution within the technological world, Photoshop conducts it business
in a fair and modern way and in return has built up a loyal consumer following.
Photoshop has become a must have for businesses dealing with digit design and
manipulation and also for people with digital cameras. This massive growth across
the technological world has led to Photoshop becoming a multi-billion dollar
organisation.
I would know invite anyone to ask any questions………
