Academy Frequently Asked Questions
Who are Street League?
Street League delivers structured sport and education programmes to some of the most disadvantaged
young people across the UK, particularly targeting 16 – 25 year olds. Street League works with a range of
‘hard to reach’ NEET groups (not in education, employment or training) to tackle issues such as
homelessness, substance addiction, crime and unemployment. The organisation uses a structured sport
and education programme to build participants’ confidence, improve their health, extend their social
networks and develop their employability skills. The Street League progressions service then supports
each participants to a positive destination such as finding sustainable employment, education or training.

What is the Street League Academy?
The Street League Academy is an 8 week training programme run 3 times a year where 16 – 25 year olds
not currently in education or employment can gain qualifications and employment support.
Who can take part in the academies?
Anyone 16 – 25 years old who is not currently in full time education or employment.
Do I need any previous qualifications?
No, we target people who have no previous qualifications and are not working or in employment. The
academy is designed to cater for all levels.
How do I apply for an academy place?
We run weekly street football sessions (mixed) and female fitness sessions across different venues in
London. People who attend these will be prioritised to attend the academy as there are only 20 places per
academy available. Anyone interested in going straight onto the academy will be advised to attend either a
Street Football session near them or a bite size workshop we have running each month.
Participants will need to fill in an academy application form and will be invited to attend a selection day run
by staff delivering the training. On this day they will receive information about Street League, what the
academy is, take part in ice breakers to get to know other potential academy participants and at the end a
select number will be allocated a place.
Do I need to attend all sessions?
Yes, to achieve the qualifications, participants will need to be present on all days. In the event of any
absences, participants will need to make up the work in their own time.

continue to claim their full benefit entitlements.

Street League will not be providing any childcare facilities, however if childcare is an issue to taking part in
the academy, there is a minimal funding pot to contribute towards childcare costs. Participants will however
be responsible for finding their own childcare provision on this occasion.
Will lunch be provided?
Lunch won’t be provided but we will provide breakfast each morning.
Will travel costs be covered?
Although Street League will subsidise some travel costs, organisations are strongly encouraged to support
any individuals they refer by covering these payments, as our funding is limited.
What should I wear?
There is no specific clothing attire but please come ready to take part in exercise sessions. For the
women’s academy, trainers would be preferable for health and safety reasons. If you are wearing jeans or
