Assessment task
This assessment task covers using percentages and decimal numbers in numeracy.
Part 1
1. Record the amount and type of food that you eat
over any consecutive 3 day period, in a table like the
one shown below. Include the amounts (eg 1 apple,
200g hamburger, 2 cans cola etc). Use Excel to
make the maths easier or you can create your table
by hand.

2. Use the NutritionData website, or do your own research, to find the amount of
fat and kilojoules in each item you’ve eaten. If you use the NutritionData
website, you’ll need to change the calories into kilojoules. 1 cal = 4 kJ
Calories and kilojoules are measurements of energy. There are approximately 4
kilojoules per calorie .

5. Change your average daily intake of Sodium and the average daily kilojoules into
percentages of the levels recommended for males/female teenage, as
suggested in Better Health or the NutritionData websites. (To do this,
find the recommended dietary intake (RDI) for sodium in milligram per day.

6. Explain in detail whether your current diet is adequate considering your

7. Write yourself a healthy nutrition plan for the next 3 days. Use websites such
as http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/ to assist in writing your healthy nutrition
plan.
8. Follow your “healthy” diet for 3 days. Explain any differences you felt after
following your healthy nutrition plan in place of your normal food intake.
Include:
How you felt making better food choices
Was it more or less convenient to ‘eat healthy’ ?
Was it more or less expensive to ‘eat healthy’ ?
If you are already a healthy eater, comment on any
difficulties you have staying away from junk foods.
