Project Objectives



 Increase the number of products from target countries in the EU

as well as in their national and global markets eco-labelled with the

EU Eco-label or other European countries' ‘Type I’ environmental

labels.





 Develop a roadmap in the direction of mutual recognition of eco-

labelling schemes









Increase the environmental efficiency of key export products

and related industrial processes in the target countries supporting

their industry and government active contribution to Marrakech

process

What is the rational behind?

 Need to promote the mutual supportiveness of trade

and environment especially in rapidly emerging

economies and improve the effectiveness of eco-labels

as market instruments;



 Eco-labels: voluntary, participatory, market-based and

transparent economic instruments aiming at decreasing

environmental impacts of products throughout their life-

cycle, promoting natural resource efficiency of industrial

processes, while enabling consumers to make informed

decisions based on products environmental preferability;



 Need to improve the access to Regional, European and

global markets of environmentally friendly products from

emerging economies, especially from SMEs.

Target Countries: China, India,

Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya

Big emerging economies influencing their Region, strong trade links

with Europe, big environmental problems associated with their P&C

patterns and rapid increase of trade.

Kenya:

needs to increase the international competitiveness and market of its

manufacturing products, improving the regional economic integration

the project represent an opportunity to leapfrog

environmentally friendly products in the EU and Global markets

Expected results

 Strengthened capacity on eco-labelling and its

application and promotion among key industry

representatives, industrial designers and

government decision-makers as well as local

trainers in target countries;



 In each target country at least one product in the

process of obtaining the EU or another

European country eco-label and increased

attention of government decision-makers to the

question of promoting eco-labelling.



 Roadmap developed towards mutual recognition

of eco-labelling schemes through increased

cooperation among target countries' and European

eco-labelling schemes
