Enrollment, Withdrawal, and Graduation Report Notes
Notes
1. All the Graduation Rate reports in this section are based on Fall term counts.
2. First-time freshmen and freshmen with partial credit are included in the opening counts and
subsequently tracked.
3. Students that transfer between NU Colleges are included in the Undergraduate Day summary of
graduation rates but recorded as “internal transfers” for all the colleges.
4. Because of the large turnover of students each term, a student might be “withdrawn” and then
reinstated at a later date thereby causing fluctuations in withdrawal rates.
5. Due to rounding and the use of multiple databases some cohorts may not always total 100%.
6. Graduation and withdrawal rates match the Registrar's Fall 2007 Freshmen Retention Report.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY
Undergraduate Cooperative Education Program
Sample Semester Calendar
The Department of Cooperative Education administers cooperative education programs for all of
the Undergraduate Colleges as well as the graduate schools of Computer & Information Science,
Journalism and Engineering. The School of Law and the Graduate School of Business
Administration administer co-op programs directly out of their respective units. Participation in
cooperative education is required for most students in the Undergraduate Colleges. Although
some of the Undergraduate Colleges also offer more traditional full-time programs, most
students ultimately choose to participate in co-op.
In Fall 2003, Northeastern University converted to a new semester calendar. For full-time
undergraduates, the academic calendar consists of a 15-week fall semester, a 15 week spring
semester, and two 7 ½-week summer sessions. Cooperative Education curricula leading to the
baccalaureate degree generally require five years at Northeastern University. Programs typically
consist of a freshman year of two consecutive semesters of full-time study followed by four
upperclass years in which students alternate periods of classroom attendance with cooperative
education experiences. The following chart depicts a sample five-year schedule for a student
assigned to a co-op division.

The Department of Career Services
The Department of Career Services offers job search assistance for all students and alumni/ae. This
department also provides career counseling to help students make decisions about their college major or
career direction, develop plans for a career change, or explore other career related issues. Individual
appointment and daily walk-in hours allow students and alumni/ae to seek convenient assistance with
resume preparation, job search correspondence, interviewing practice, or any other career-related questions.
Programs designed to help participants explore a range of career fields are presented by staff, alumni and
employers. Career Conversations is a weekly series of informal presentations by guest speakers from a
variety of career fields.
Full-time jobs for after graduation, and internships (non co-op) are advertised on the department’s internet
job database, HuskyCareerLink (HCL). Students and alumni/ae can access HCL from the department’s
website: www.neu.edu/careerservices. Over 2,000 employers advertise 3,000+ job openings each year on
HuskyCareerLink. The On Campus Recruiting program for graduating students, managed through the
HCL, brings more than 200 employer representatives to campus to interview graduating students for full-
time, after-graduation employment.
The Department of Career Services’ web site, at www.neu.edu/careerservices, is an excellent tool for
students to get career related information, and sign up for targeted seminars and career-related events.
Each year the university surveys graduating seniors regarding their employment status and graduate school
plans. Here is a sampling of the employers and positions reported by the class of 2006.
