Age range: 11 to 14 years old (Primary School)

Duration: 2 months

You and your students will select the 5 most famous national songs in your

region. You will research the biography of the singers and/or the history of the

band that composed each of these songs, the lyrics, the melody and other

curiosities. After this stage, you will share the researched material with the

other project participants, thus enabling the interchange amongst the different

cultures. The final product will be a “Talent Show”, with the students performing

many songs from their own region or another country.

Ask your students to find out about the most famous songs in their region

together with their friends and families. Make a list to discover which are the

1st week most played songs and select the five most voted ones. Organise your

students per interest groups to make a research and prepare a presentation,

which will be shared with the other project participants.

Support your students to carry out a research on the Internet and other sources

on the music they’ve selected to study: the singer and/or the band, the lyrics,

curiosities and other information that they may find interesting. It is important

2nd week

that they also get the audio, so that they can listen to the songs and learn

them. Students will organise all data collected to prepare a presentation for the

following week.

With the material researched, students will organise a presentation that will be

shared with the other project participants. As a suggestion, students may

prepare a PowerPoint presentation with info on the songwriter/band, pictures of

main events, the song lyrics and the melody. This presentation may also be

3rd week

made using Movie Maker or any other multimedia production software. Use

your creativity!

Visit the School Online website and access our exchange area at

http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/exchange-area-for-hit-parade-project and

share the material produced by your students with all the other participants.

Visit the webpage http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/exchange-area-for-hit-

parade-project in our portal and collect materials uploaded by other

participants. Share them with your students, so that they can learn songs from

another region or country. Each student shall choose the one he/she liked the

most and get together with classmates with the same taste in order to organise

a “Talent Show”.

Students will get prepared for the “Talent Show”. Besides studying the melody

in order to sing it, they may use creativity to introduce the song with a

performance or choreography. They may also create costumes and

accessories for the show. If a group has someone who can play a musical

5th and

instrument, he/she may share that talent with the others and help them to play

6th week

the song. Share it in the process record area, available at

http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/process-record-area-for-hit-parade-

project, pictures, statements and videos to illustrate the outcome of this

initiative.

Set a presentation date at the school to share the results of the project with the

other groups.

Organise a performance programme and send out invitations including the

shows’ dates and times, so that everyone can join in. On those dates, it is

7th week important that you also invite students’ parents, so that they can watch the

“Talent Show” and learn more about the project.

After this stage, tell us more about the worked carried out in your school. Take

pictures of the show and share this material with us at

http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/share-final-product-for-hit-parade-project.

Ask someone to film the shows and suggest your students to organise the

videos produced and upload them to the Connecting Classrooms website. If all

of you agree, you may also upload them to the school website or blog or to an

Internet video sharing website.
