Potatoes

Research shows that both Pelletized Lime and

Gypsum made a difference in Potatoes in 2006!

In 2006, we designed a trial to test the response to yield and

quality of Potatoes as a direct result of Pelletized Lime and

Pelletized Gypsum applications.

Treatments:

1. Pellet Lime 300 lbs 2. Pelletized Gypsum 300 lbs 3. 10-10-10 600 lbs

10-10-10 600 lbs 10-10-10 600 lbs Potassium Sulfate 300 lbs

Potassium Sulfate 300 lbs Potassium Sulfate 300 lbs

Product Description:

Pelletized lime supplies 22% calcium and 11% magnesium. Pelletized gypsum supplies 21% calcium

and 16% sulfur. The mined materials are first finely ground for quick availability to the soil and the plant.

The resulting powder is then granulated into fertilizer sized pellets for easy mixing. Soil applications are

extremely uniform and accurate.

Number of Potatoes Harvested Discovery:

Pelletized Lime increased the number of harvested potatoes by nearly

360

343 343 11% and the total weight of plots by 16% over the untreated plots.

340 Pelletized Gypsum increased the number of harvested potatoes by nearly

320

305

11% and the total weight by 24% over the untreated plots.

Benefits of Calcium:

200

• Calcium is the most important fertilizer nutrient

100

• Calcium is the primary building block for cell division and flower formation

0 • Calcium aids in plant maturity and seed and fruit set

Treatment 1 Treatment 2 Treatment 3

• Calcium improves disease resistance (potato scab) and improves plant health

Test Notes: OM-2%; CEC-7.7; Soil pH-6.3; • Calcium plays a major role in increasing fruit firmness and adds to the storage

Soil Fertility-”High”; 4 Reps; RCB Design life of the fruit for movement to distant markets
