Welcome to Nashville…
ABOUT NASHVILLE: Music City USA is home to a variety of musical genres and artists from all
ends of the spectrum, ranging from acts such as Kings of Leon to Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, screen
celebrities Reece Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, and of course every variety of Americana and
country spanning from Ben Folds to Earl Scruggs and a whole lot of places in between.
If you enjoy live music from that includes everything from Bluegrass to Bach, this is your kind of
town.
Best Places to Eat…
Honestly, there are far too many to list…really. Nashville has literally hundreds of great places to nosh
on everything from Barbeque to Sushi, Kobe Steaks to incredible vegetarian. The most comprehensive
list can be found at www.visitmusiccity.com/visitors/restaurants which has a search engine to help you
make decisions based on location, price and cuisine.
A few downtown Broadway area favorites include:
Jack’s Barbeque www.jacksbarbeque.com at 416 Broadway…it’s among the best Nashville traditions!
The Palm www.thepalm.com at 140 5th Ave South, right across from the Bridgestone Arena.
Flyte World Dining and Wine www.flytenashville.com is an elegant, comfortable fine dining
environment which stimulates your passion and curiosity for great food, interesting wines, and finely
crafted beers.
The Gulch is loaded with great places including:
Cantina Laredo, a Mexican gourmet experience that you won’t soon forget…The Watermark, classic
fine dining and Sambuca, small plates in a good atmosphere. The Gulch is located at South 12th and
Pine Streets.
Music Row and Midtown are within walking distance in good weather---and if you are in the mood for
about a 1.5 mile roundtrip from downtown.
In the Music Row Circle on Demonbreun a few blocks west of the Country Music Hall of Fame (home
of Musica, our well sculptured and fully nude tribute to the arts) lies Dan McGuiness, Red Rooster, Tin
Roof and several other watering holes. Walk a few blocks up onto Division Street to the Patterson
House, a speakeasy with incredible drinks and limited seated (it is considered impolite to stand in the
bar, so all patrons are seated)…it comes with Curt Coffing and Joel Bradshaw’s highest
recommendations. Within the next few blocks lie countless bars with a variety of specialties and
attitudes.
Best Places for Live Music:
Mercy Lounge www.mercylounge.com (Gulch area, south of Broadway)…speaks for itself.
The Station Inn www.stationinn.com (Gulch) world famous bluegrass..talking discouraged during
shows.
The Bluebird Café www.bluebirdcafe.com (Green Hills) is among the best known intimate venues in
the world---name a songwriter, they’ve played here. Silence during shows is a must---and vigorously
enforced! Make reservations early for this hot spot!
3rd & Lindsley www.3rdandlindsley.com (south of Broadway)
Roberts Western World www.robertswesternworld.com (Broadway) is a one of kind, honest to God,
Hillbilly Honkytonk with the best in traditional country music (think Johnny Cash, Hank Williams,
Ray Price and the Outlaws). BR-549 was the house band for many years. A true Nashville experience,
be prepared to jitterbug and swing with some serious old time traditionalists! Local Favorite, TCV
recommended.
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge www.tootsies.net (Broadway) was backstage to the Grande Ole Opry when it
was held in the Ryman Auditorium. Hank Williams is said to have frequented the bar too many times
by Opry management, which resulted in his being kicked off the Grand Old Opry in 1952, about a year
prior to his death.
NOT to be missed…
Be sure to check out the Country Music Hall of Fame, directly behind the Bridgestone Arena, Hatch
Show Prints in the 300 Block of Broadway, nearby neighbors Gruhn Guitar (the finest vintage
instruments in the world) and of course Ernest Tubbs Record Shop---you can’t miss it, right beside
the Paradise Park Trailer Resort.
If you really want to…
The Grand Ole Opry and Opryland are located east of town, near the airport. There are a variety of
shuttles to bring you out and back, including the General Jackson Showboat on the Cumberland River.
Opryland is home to Opry Mills and the Opryland Hotel. Opry tickets are available at www.opry.com
but are not always easy to score!
