Structured Observation
Observation criteria for Structured Observation Level 4
This observation is used to evaluate the results of a course. The observation can be used by the trainer, program manager, employer, line manager or
colleague.
Various areas and levels of the course are observed and evaluated by using an observation plan.

An introductory consultation takes place with the potential

The size of the course ranges from 5 to 10 Participants. This

The course group will be relatively homogenous in terms of
basic competences
Course design The course is designed with a view to increasing the level of
independence and activity of the Participants
The individual sessions of the course have a clear, transparent
structure
The Participants are clear about what they are going to learn
on the course, and why
The pace of the individual course units is adapted to suit the
needs of the Participants
The atmosphere on the course is respectful, friendly and
trusting (protected environment)
Course content The contents of the individual course units are adapted to suit
the needs of the Participants
The contents of the individual course units relate to tasks that
the Participants need to master in their day-to-day existence
and their work
The contents of the individual course units are didactically

prepared to meet the specific targets of the group and will
match the level of the Participants
The Participants have the opportunity to take part and to
contribute actively in the course at all times
The Participants are never forced to take part in any activities
(voluntary participation)
The joy of learning is transmitted to the Participants
The relevance of basic competences to their day-to-day
existence and their work form a topic of discussion with the
Participants
The transfer of what they learn on the course into their day-to-
day existence/work is be promoted and tested
The Participants have an opportunity to report on the changes
to their lives brought about by their attendance on the course,
and to discuss these changes with other people
Regular group discussions and meetings are held
An intensive exchange of views is promoted between the
Participants in group tasks, small projects, discussion sessions,
outings, small celebrations...etc.
Trainers The trainers are professionally trained in education and
teaching
The trainers are professionally trained in teaching marginalized
people (low qualified people)
The trainers are available as a trusted contact for the
Participants during the course
The trainers maintain a respectful, friendly contact with the
Participants (teacher’s discretion)
The trainers approach individual people and their educational
problems in a purposeful manner, and provide individual
support to the Participants in accordance with their needs
The trainers are available for consultation discussions with the
Participants
The trainers are available to help with questions and problems

after the end of the course
Course evaluation Feedback is given regularly from both sides (between the
