Part 1 - Post Definition


Job Title                  Assistant Sports Centre Manager
Accountable To             Sports Centre Manager
Scale                      H14-H15 (Technical & Supervisory)
Workload                   37 hours
Main purpose               To:
                                Assist in the management of SRC sports centre and
                                  staff
                                Work with the Sports Centre Manager to ensure the
                                  facility provides sustainable use for and by the
                                  community
                                Liaise and support curriculum staff to enable facility
                                  use by college learners


Part 2 – Accountabilities

    1       Assist in the development and delivery of systems and procedures to
            ensure the material features and resources of the centre are welcoming,
            safe and create a stimulating environment for users
    2       In the absence of the Sport Centre Manager coordinate and supervise staff
            in line with college policy
    3       Assist and support the development and delivery of a programme of
            commercial and community use of the centre within agreed guidelines
    4       Assist and support the Centre Manager in marketing and promoting the
            use of the facilities to existing and potential users and local and regional
            sports boards and organisations
    5       Assist in the liaison and support of curriculum staff to provide facilities
            for college learners within agreed guidelines
    6       Assist in the development and delivery of monitoring and evaluating the
            usage of the sports centre
    7       When delegated assist in the financial systems of the centre

    8       When appropriate and necessary undertake generic management duties
            including staff management, quality assurance and health and safety
    9       Support and promote the development of the Centre’s equality and
            diversity policy regarding usage and opportunities
Part 3 – Processes

    1       Asset management & safety
                 Ensure equipment is maintained and operated in line with
                   instructions and guidelines
                 Undertake safety inspections when required
                 Carry out risk assessments of activities when required
                 Monitor activities at the centre to maintain safety and security
                 Support and assist in emergency procedures

    2       Staffing
                 Assist and support in the coordination of work schedules
                 Supervise and monitor the performance of staff
                 Assist in the training of staff in the safe use of equipment and
                    supervision of users
                 Support cleaning systems and procedures

    3       Commercial and community use programme
               Maintain booking records and schedule of activities
               Set out equipment for scheduled use
               Assist and support in the organisation of instructor led classes
               Assist and support in the organisation of holiday programmes

    4       Market and promotion
                Assist in ensuring the centre is welcoming, appealing and
                  informative
                Hold communications with user groups to ensure effective usage
                Liaise with educational groups, sporting clubs, regional sports
                  boards and governing bodies to promote the centre
                Ensure personal knowledge of regional and national developments
                  in sport and leisure is kept up to date
                Assist in the promoting of the centre for disabled and under-
                  represented groups

    5       Curriculum Use
                Liaise and support curriculum staff to provide centre facilities for
                   college learners within the agreed guidelines

    6       Monitor business plan
               Support and assist the monitoring of the centres’ use
               Assist and support the evaluation of the centres’ performance

    7       Financial systems
                Operate till or other reception systems
                Hold cash and cheques securely for collection

    8       Generic management duties
                Assist, support and participate in quality improvement processes
          Promote equality and diversity in line with college policy and
           legislative requirements

9   Equality and diversity
        Assist and support in the promotion and organisation of disabled
           usage within the centre
        Assist and support in the promotion and organisation of under-
           represented usage within the centre
