BRC1D517 - Remote controller user guide.
Daikin’s new remote controller is not easy to use at first, so I have compiled this step-
by-step user guide to explain the functions, and show you how to execute them.
Setting the time and day.
1. Press and hold the button for six seconds, the time and day will flash
in the top right corner of the screen.
2. Adjust the time using the and buttons.
3. Adjust the day using the and buttons.
4. To confirm the time and day settings, press the button once.
Remote controller permission level setting.
Setting the permission level is a good way to prevent certain functions being available
to the end user. There are three levels of permission available, and they are explained
below:
Level 1 (factory set) – This allows the use of all buttons on the remote
controller.
Level 2 - This allows the following buttons to be used:
On/off
Schedule timer button
Temperature adjustment
Mode/minimum/ maximum button
Fan speed
Louvre direction
Level 3 – This allows the following buttons to be used:
On/off
Temperature adjustment
Fan speed
Permission levels are set as follows:
1. Press the ‘test’ button for six seconds, until the display changes.
2. Press the button until ‘1b’ is displayed in the centre of the screen. In
the bottom left of the screen is displayed 0-01.
3. If you require permission level 2, press the button once, then press
‘test’
4. If you require permission level 3, press the button once to change
the number in the bottom right of the display to 0-02, press button
once, then press ‘test’ button once.
Now that you have returned to the original screen, you will notice that all the buttons
that you have just disabled are still available to you. To activate the permission level
you have just set, you must press some buttons in a certain sequence:
1. Press and hold the button.
2. While keeping that button pressed, press and hold the button,
button, and button simultaneously for about six seconds.
3. Once these buttons have been pressed for the allotted time, the buttons that
were disabled will now display ‘NOT AVAILABLE’ on the screen when you
press them.
4. If you want to bring the level back to level 1 (factory set – all buttons
available), just press the buttons in sequence as explained in the previous
steps.
Home leave function - (frost protection).
This function should be set when the occupants of the air-conditioned space are away
for a period of time (holiday etc). When activated, if the room temperature gets to
10ºC, the units connected to that remote controller will switch on in heating mode.
This function will stop when the area gets to 15ºC. To activate it, you must carry out
the following steps:
1. Hold the ‘test’ button for six seconds until the display changes.
2. Press the until ‘1b’ is displayed in the centre of the screen.
3. Press the button once, and the button once, and 1-02 will
appear in the bottom left corner of the display. (Factory set 1-01).
4. Press button to confirm the setting.
5. Press ‘test’ once to return to the original display.
6. Now press and simultaneously.
7. The symbol is now displayed on the screen, denoting that ‘Home leave’
has been set.
8. When ‘Home leave’ becomes active (i.e., when the room temperature reaches
10ºC), the begins to flash. It continues to flash until the room temperature
becomes 15ºC (target temperature), then stops flashing and stays on.
Programming the Schedule timer.
This is the trickiest function to set, and may require a few attempts to perfect it.
The schedule timer allows you to set up to five events per day, seven days a week
(i.e., two ‘on’ times, two ‘off’ times, and maybe a final ‘off’ time per day). You
can also set the temperature you want the controller to come on at, but not the
mode. If the last time the controller was on it was set at ‘fan only’, the next time
the controller comes on regardless of the temperature set, it will come on in ‘fan
only’. The only time the set point will work, is when the controller is left in
cooling mode or heating mode. The following steps describe how to set the
schedule timer up:
1. Press the button once, and the symbol appears in the left of the
screen. ‘MON’ also flashes in the top right of the screen.
2. Then press and hold the button for six seconds, until the
symbol on the left of the screen begins to flash.
3. Press the button once again, and a number ‘1’ appears next to the
symbol, a set point flashes in the centre of the screen, and 0:00 flashes
in the top right corner of the screen.
4. Then press to select an ‘event’, (‘off’, ‘min/max’, and ‘on’). ‘On’
is the first function you come to, and unlike ‘off’, and ‘min/max’, is not
displayed on the screen.
5. Set the desired set point you wish the controller to come on at, using
and buttons, then set the event time using and
buttons. (Time can only be set in ten-minute increments).
6. When happy that these settings are correct, press the button once,
and a number ‘2’ appears flashing next to 1. This is event two. As
before a set point flashes in the centre of the screen, and a time (ten
minutes later than the first time set), flashes in the top right corner of the
screen.
7. Set your event (‘off’, ‘min/max’, or ‘on’) using the button, set
your time using and buttons, then set the set point
using the and buttons. (Note, when setting an ‘off’ time,
no set point is available to be set).
8. When satisfied that this event is okay, and you do not want to set any more
events, press and hold the and buttons simultaneously for
six seconds. This will take you to Tuesday, and copy the parameters from
Monday automatically. If you want to keep Tuesday the same, press and
hold and buttons simultaneously for six seconds, and so on
until Friday appears. If you want Saturday and Sunday to have the same
times, continue copying days as before.
9. If you want different times for Saturday and Sunday, press and hold
and buttons simultaneously for six seconds as before to get
you on to Saturday. Then you need to press and hold for six seconds
to enable you to change the parameters, then follow steps 4 to 7.
10. If you want to copy Saturday to Sunday, press and hold and
buttons simultaneously for six seconds. If you want no parameters set in
Sunday (i.e., day off), press and hold button for six seconds, and
Sunday will appear with no parameters set. Press button once to
complete programming.
11. To activate the schedule timer, press the button once, and
symbol will appear on the left side of the screen and stay on. To de-
activate the schedule timer, press the button once again and the
symbol will disappear.
Note: The schedule timer cannot be used if a centralised device is connected
to the same system as the BRC1D517 remote controller. If you press
the timer buttons in this instance, ‘NOT AVAILABLE’ will appear in
the screen.
Temperature limit setting.
This mode enables the room temperature to be maintained between two
setpoints. A maximum and minimum temperature need to be set, and those
setpoints cannot be set any less then Δt of 6ºC. For example, if you set the
maximum temperature at 25ºC, then the minimum temperature has to be 19ºC
or lower. The temperature limit setting is set up as follows:
1. Press the button once, and ‘MAX and ‘MIN’ appear in the
centre of the screen.
2. Then press the button once, and a maximum temperature set
point flashes next to the symbol ‘MAX’.
3. To adjust the maximum set point, use the and
buttons.
4. When you are happy with the maximum set point, press the
button once, and a minimum temperature set point flashes next to the
symbol ‘MIN’.
5. To adjust the minimum set point, use the and
buttons.
6. When both set points have been set, leave the controller alone for
around six seconds, and the set points will disappear. However,
‘MAX’ and ‘MIN’ are still displayed.
7. The limit setting is now active.
8. To de-activate the limit setting, press button once, and the
normal screen will re-appear.
