21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER GRANT

offers FREE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

TUTORING - JUNIOR HIGH, SENIOR HIGH AND ELL : Monday through Thursday 2:35-3:40 p.m.

MEDIA CENTER: Come to the Media Center and use the computer, get technology help, do research, or use the resources.

The Media Center is open Monday-Friday 2:35-4:40 p.m.

HIP HOP 101 CLASS: A journey through new school and old school hip hop. Song writing, sampling music, guest speakers and some

recording and production. Students will watch, listen, read and write their ideas and thoughts from experts in Hip Hop. Monday -Thursday

2:35-4:40 p.m. in the Media Center.

TEEN SANDBOX: This program has a different focus each week.

1 st Thursday of the month: Game Design Studio - Create Computer games

2 nd Thursday of the month: Manga Book Club- Read and discuss Manga books

3rd Thursday of the month: Gaming Galore- Come play Wii, Dance Revolution and more

4 th Thursday of the month: Get Creative- crafts, drawing, poetry and more

This program is very unique in that you can sign up for one of these Thursdays or for A L L four. This program is located at the Brookdale

Library every Thursday at 2:30-4:00 p.m. There is transportation to and from the library each time.

TURNING POINT FOUNDATION: Come join this unique program where you can play Playstation II, use the computers, tutoring help,

mentoring program, adventure activities, learn life skills and much more. Monday through Friday 2:35 -4:40 p.m.

TEENS IN ACTION: If you are interested in service learning, leadership development, and teambuilding….. please come join us for this

What does a typical ECFE class look like?

We believe that parents are a child’s first and most influential teachers. Our classes begin with parents and children playing

and exploring in the Early Childhood classroom together with activities planned by a licensed Early Childhood teacher. The

children continue to explore the room as the parents move into the Parent Education room. During this time parents ask

questions, share parenting issues and discuss a variety of topics with other parents led by a licensed Parent Educator.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING

Parents of children ages 3 to 5, make your appointment now!

Minnesota law requires Early Childhood Screening of all children before they start Kindergarten. The

screening is best done when the child is between 3- and 4-years-old. S c r e e n i n g i s a f r e e check of your

child's vision, hearing, height, weight, development and identification of risk factors (health history and family

factors) as well as a review of his or her immunization records. Screening helps parents know if their child may benefit

from early childhood services before entering kindergarten.

School Readiness Preschool

for Fall of 2008

School Readiness Preschool is a program for children 3-5 years old and their parents. School Readiness Preschool helps

prepare children for kindergarten by offering a variety of stimulating play experiences in a literacy-rich environment.

Recognizing that parents are their child’s first and most influential teachers, parents play an important role in the School

Readiness program. We have several parenting options to choose from, including parenting classes,

take-home activity kits, and volunteering in the classroom. Tuition rates are $17 to $83/month per our sliding fee.
