A Message From the Medical Staff President - Did You Thank Someone Today?

The presents have all been opened and the ball has dropped on

Time Square – It is time to ring in another promising year at

Lima Memorial!

In the spirit of the season I want to ask all of you to take a

minute to thank and recognize the people you work with every

day in your offices and at the hospitals. At Lima Memorial, you

can fill out a simple STAR Gram card found in the Physicians’

Lounge and drop it in the box. The Health System will formally

recognize that individual for a job well done.

Personally, I am so grateful to all of you for the support and

input you have given me throughout 2010 during my first year

as your Medical Staff President.

Lima Memorial Launches New Intranet

Lima Memorial has launched a new internal website, or Intranet. The new Intranet replaces the current Direc-

tory/Intranet that served as the home page for LMHS computers.

All of the links on the previous Directory/Intranet page (Escription, UpToDate, SRMC's Powerchart, etc.) are

on the new Intranet.

• The Escription link is fourth button on the top row.

• The UpToDate link is the sixth button on the top row.

• SRMC's Powerchart can be found by mousing over the "S" in the alphabetical

navigation at the top of the page.

There are many features on the new Intranet that are designed to make it easier to find the information you

need.

The features of the new Intranet include:

• A searchable internal phone directory;

• A ‘Find a Physician’ online directory with contact information and photos of the

medical staff;

• A ‘hot link’ navigation bar to help you quickly find links;

Lima Memorial to Implement Tobacco-Free Hiring Practice

As part of Lima Memorial’s efforts to foster a healthy workplace and community, Lima Memorial will

begin hiring only tobacco-free employees beginning January 1, 2011. St. Rita’s is also implementing a

similar policy at the same time.

Under the new hiring practice, applicants to either hospital will be asked to confirm their tobacco use

status on their employment application.

Lima Memorial will test all applicants for tobacco use as part of the regular, pre-employment drug

screening process. LMHS applicants who declare tobacco use, as well as those who do not pass the

screening, may reapply for a position after 90 days.

The tobacco-free hiring practice is aligned with Lima Memorial’s ongoing efforts to support good

health among Associates. The hiring practice does not impact current Associates, however the Living

Well Wellness Program will be offering smoking cessation support for Associates as well as incentives

to encourage participation in wellness activities.

Please call Human Resources at ext. 5089 if you have questions about the new policy.
