The deHavilland DH108 "Swallow"
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002/04
GMAX Model by Brian Douglas
Panel and flight dynamics by Ian Willis - Bluesteel FS
Released May 2004.
This is an authentic model of the de Havilland DH108 research aircraft unofficially named the "Swallow" which
first flew on 15 May 1946. Only three were ever built.
TG283 - maiden flight 15 May 1946
TG306 - maiden flight 23 August 1946
VW120 - maiden flight 12 April 1947
This model depicts the last built - VW120 - distinctive by its more pointed nose and altered canopy. It exceeded
Mach 1 on 9 September 1947.
History will say that all three crashed - resulting in the deaths of their pilots.
TG283 -1 May 1950 - G. Genders
TG306 -27 September 1946 - G. de Havilland
VW120 -15 February 1950 - J. Muller-Rowland
Significantly though it was the first British Built aircraft to exceed Mach 1 (5th September 1948 - piloted by
John Derry) and the third aircraft ever to do so.
It was originally built to provide data on swept wing technology for the DH106 "Comet" and the DH110 "Sea
Vixen" and were basically Vampire fuselages with wings fitted to the existing fixing points.
The Goblin IV engine powered aircraft VW120.
