• Chet has spearheaded the fight to keep the Waco VA Hospital open. Chet earned the “Unsung Hero” Award from the American Legion for his national leadership in opposing the Disabled Veterans Tax, improving VA health care and increasing pensions for military retirees’ widows. • Chet helped stop the privatization of Social Security and has co-sponsored a bill to simplify and improve the new prescription drug law.
Keeping Our Kids Safe From Harm
• Chet is working to keep children safe online with tougher law enforcement against sexual predators, and he voted to establish and fund the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, which has led to over 5700 arrests. • As a father, Chet strongly believes in cleaning up our public airwaves and restricting minors’ access to violent and inappropriate video games.
A Fiscal Conservative Watchdog A National Leader on Defense and Military Issues
• Chet Edwards is a nationally recognized leader on military issues, fighting for our soldiers when some in Washington have tried to cut housing allowances, retiree pay, education for military children and danger pay for troops in Iraq. • As co-chairman of the bipartisan House Army Caucus, Chet led the fight against a proposal to slash 40,000 active-duty troops, earning him the “Legislator of the Year” award from the Association of the U.S. Army. • Chet is fighting to stop the IRS from letting accountants sell a person’s tax returns and private financial information to marketing companies and data brokers. • Chet co-sponsored a Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment and supports a “pay as you go” rule for the federal budget that requires a dollar cut for every dollar of new spending. • Chet has voted for 62 different tax cuts including the permanent repeal of the Marriage Penalty and Death Tax and tax reductions for small businesses and families.
Protecting Our Homeland and Securing Our Borders
• While others talk about securing our borders and controlling illegal immigration, Chet is doing something about it. He helped write the law that added 1500 Border Patrol agents, opposes amnesty and wants strict enforcement of our illegal immigration laws. • Chet led the fight to build surveillance aircraft for border patrol and catching drug smugglers, and he has been at the forefront of efforts to keep nuclear bombs from being smuggled into our country.

About Chet Edwards
Chet Edwards comes from a hardworking family with deep Texas roots. Chet’s father was a seafood salesman who served in the Navy in World War II and taught Chet about the sacrifices made by America’s veterans. Chet’s mother was a woman of deep religious faith who loved her family and cared for her neighbors. They raised their son to work hard and play by the rules. Chet graduated from Texas A&M, where he received the Earl Rudder Award as one of two outstanding graduates. He went on to get his MBA, and worked as a businessman in commercial real estate and ran a small business. From 1983 to 1990, he served in the Texas Senate and was named one of the “Ten Best” by Texas Monthly. Since 1991, he has represented Central Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he has earned a reputation as an independent-minded leader who puts his district and country above partisan politics. While Chet is committed to public service, he considers his first responsibility to be his family — his wife, Lea Ann, and their two young children, J.T. and Garrison. They are faces full of promise and hope, and they remind Chet of what truly matters, what’s really important in life. Chet Edwards is a man of strong faith. As a lifelong Methodist, his faith in God and the power of prayer are fundamental to his life and values.
