Why we think this is important...
Unlike the others, 3's network is built completely around the internet.
We are making all forms of communication mobile, not just voice, so that
our customers can take advantage of access to the internet wherever
they are. We have built Britain's best mobile broadband network which
already covers 93 percent of the UK population and will reach more than
98 percent in 2009. We are building something scalable that can handle
whatever people want to use it for.
That's why we are revolutionising pricing.
There is enormous demand for mobile services at a fair price just waiting
to be met. Today, mobile services are expensive and that discourages
people from using them to the full. We believe mobile should be priced
like the internet – our network is based on internet technology after all –
so why not charge a subscription? A flat rate service to use as much as
you like. That will kick-start the market. That's why we also support
Government moves to bring down hidden mobile costs that block progress.
What is it?
A 3G network is able to deliver high quality media-rich content, including
audio and video, to a mobile handset. In short it allows customers to see
and hear video clips, and send and receive multimedia content and
information many times faster than is possible over 2G networks.
3 is continuously developing its 3G network, recently introducing HSDPA
(High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) which allows content to be
downloaded three-times faster than basic 3G speeds and improves the
quality of service that our customers receive.
