I. Course Overview:
Upon successful completion of this course the students should be able to have mastered the
fundamentals of speaking, reading, and writing basic Portuguese.
II. Units: Basic Portuguese Pronunciation
Unit 1
General Outcome:
1.0 The students should be able to pronounce the basic sounds of Portuguese.
Specific Measurable Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1.1 Pronounce the Portuguese vowels.
1.2 Pronounce the Portuguese consonants.
1.3 Place the phonetic accent in the next to last syllable unless there is a written accent.
1.4 Pronounce words with a written accent.

2.1 Pronounce and conjugate the verbs studied using all subject pronoun forms.

3.1 Memorize and know how to use the irregular verbs “estar,” “ir,” and “dar.”
3.2 Know the Portuguese articles, and learn how to form and use Portuguese contractions.
