Weekly Objectives

1.03 Integrate prior experiences and all sources of information in the text…when reading orally
and silently. 1.04 Increase sight vocabulary, reading vocabulary, and writing vocabulary
through… 1.06 Read independently daily from self-selected materials… 2.02 Interact with the
text before, during, and after reading, listening, or viewing by: 2.03 Read a variety of text… 2.04
Identify and interpret elements of fiction and nonfiction and support by referencing the text to
determine the: 3.01 Respond to fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama using interpretive,
critical… 4.01 Read aloud grade-appropriate text with fluency, comprehension, and expression.

Reading – Whole Group/ Small Cooperative Groups (AR, Success Maker)

Monday – Read the selection “Money”. Practice Vocabulary Strategy for Multiple Meaning
Words. The students will write about something spectacular that would like to buy and tell
what they could do to earn money to buy it. Students will use words from the “Words to Know”
list related to their weekly story.

Tuesday – Introduce the story If You Made a Million. Discuss the genre nonfiction and give
examples from the story that make this selection nonfiction.

Wednesday – Review vocabulary from the story. Students will complete a vocabulary
worksheet using words from the story.

Thursday – Using context clues. Students will reread the story independently and write down
sentences that include the context clues in the story that helped them understand the story
vocabulary words.

Friday – Review character and setting. Introduce story structure. Students will read a passage
answer questions that cover this concepts.

Grammar – Whole Group Daily Fix-Its

Monday – Introduce commands and exclamations. Discuss the punctuation marks associated
with the two and when to use each.

Tuesday – Review commands and exclamations. Complete part B in grammar book which
requires the students to add correct punctuation to each sentence and label the sentences
command or exclamation.

Wednesday- Students will create ten sentences on their own using words from the word wall.
The students will create five commands and five exclamations.

Thursday – Students will complete part C in their grammar book. Write a sentence for each
item given and follow the directions for each sentence.

Friday – Students will partner up and complete the Review section of commands and
exclamations in their grammar books.

Spelling

Monday – Introduce words. Clap syllables. Discuss long vowel digraphs. Students will write their
words three times each.

Tuesday – Review words. Students will create word pyramids. Discuss parts of each word and
sounds.

Wednesday – Review words. Students will write words three times each.

Thursday – Spelling pretest. Students will write sentences using each spelling word.

Friday – Review and test.

Writing (Journals) - (Use appropriate capitalization and punctuation.)

Monday – Write about your weekend. Include who it was spent with, what you did, where you
went, how you spent it, etc.

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday – Students will write on different topics. Sentences/paragraphs
will include who, what, when, where, why and how.

Friday – Free writing.

Math (Success Maker/Manipulative) Whole group and small groups.

Objectives
1.01 - Develop number sense for whole numbers through 9,999.

   a. Connect model, number word, and number using a variety of representations.
   b. Build understanding of place value (ones through thousands).
   c. Compare and order.

Monday – Friday (Calendar Math/ Mental Addition Facts/ Skip Counting review)

Chapter 1 (Use place value blocks each day)

Monday – Review and reteach chapter 1, lessons 1-7.

Tuesday – Place value test on numbers through the hundred thousands. Students will label and
write numbers in standard, expanded, and word form.

Wednesday – Chapter pretest. The class will discuss the following terms: equal to, less than,
number line, and greater than.

Chapter 2

Thursday –Lesson 1 – Comparing numbers using less than, greater than, and equal to symbols.
Discuss different ways to compare numbers and complete guided practice and as a whole
group. The students will then independently practice using the skills taught.

Friday – Lesson 2 – Order Numbers. Discuss the terms compare and order. Activity: Each
student will receive a number. Without speaking the students will order themselves in a line
around the room. Students will complete practice and problem solving independently, writing
numbers in order from least to greatest.

Social Studies (Tuesday/Thursday)

1.01 Identify and demonstrate characteristics of responsible citizenship and explain how citizen
participation can impact changes within a community.

Tuesday – Read “Money from Long Ago”. Discuss different types of money and the ways it was
used in the past. Students will create a chart that compares and contrasts money from the past
and present.

Thursday – Students will create a “Saving” concept web. In the web students will list ways in
which they can save money.

Science (Wednesday/Friday)

1.04 Explain why the number of seeds a plant produces depends on variables such as light,
water, nutrients, and pollination.

Wednesday – Read the selection What Are Army Ants? Begin modeling how to go back in the
passage find and underline answers to each question. Students will answer comprehension
questions from the selection.

Friday – Students will read and complete questions from Ants in Your Plants (released EOG
passage). Students will learn how to make an ant picnic and use strategies to find answers in
the text.

Dear Parents, Each week your child will receive a homework contract. Your child will have spelling,
math, and reading homework each night. PLEASE review with your child and ask them to pronounce and
give a definition for each word. The homework assignments will be written on the board daily and your
child is expected to copy down their assignments. Your child will check out books from the library each
week and should be prepared to take an AR test on the book(s) he/she checks out as well. Thank you so
much for helping with your child’s success! Please sign/initial your child’s daily behavior log nightly.
