MATH TRADING CARDS HISTORY PROJECT

Baseball players have had their faces and statistics on trading cards for many years. It is now

time for the famous mathematicians to showcase their accomplishments. You are to create a

math trading card for a famous mathematician. On one side will be a picture of the

mathematician. On the other side will be his/her “vital statistics” or interesting biographical

accomplishments.

Your MATHEMATICIAN: _________________________________________

The template for the back and front of the card is on Mrs. Feiler’s and Mrs. Hood’s webpages.

It can be accessed through the BHS faculty link. Click “Math Trading Cards” on the left side of

the page.

On the front of the trading card, the picture of the mathematician should be placed in the text

box. Make it as large as possible. Try to get a color picture. At the bottom of the card is a small

box. On the first line, type the mathematician’s name. On the next line type the years of life

(e.g. 1940 - 1997). On the third line, type the city and country of the mathematician’s birth.

These 3 lines should be in Arial 14 and Bold.

On the back of the card, the first line is the full name of the mathematician in Arial 14 and Bold.

Then include a brief, but interesting, biography which includes the essential parts of his/her life.

This is to be typed in Arial 11 but not bold. At the bottom of the card in Arial 11 and Bold, type

the phrase Major Works. Under this in Arial 11 but not bold, list one or two major works for

which the mathematician is known.

Information for the card should come from at least one book and one internet resource. These

sources should be listed on the rubric and turned in with the cards. You cannot use Wikipedia

as a source except for the picture, as information found there may not be accurate. Use the

correct form for references as you would in English classes.
