1.Don't think everyone knows TSPi and ACDM - if they do, then they should be sharing their knowledge with the rest
of the team.

2. We still need to measure our progress against the defined goal measures.
3. The team is putting sincere efforts towards following the processes to their best possible knowledge. Though it
can be further improved, the willingness to learn and execute is what i appreciate.

4. We will perform ACDM stage 4 review next week.




1. Everyone seems to have different understanding of the requirements. Part of my tasks this week will be to review
the initial requirements, so I'll be able to answer these questions better next week hopefully.
2. All of us need to understand the requirement. This will enable us to come up with more perspectives and options
and would be very beneficial.

3. We all need to work on prototypes and user scenarios to have an indepth understanding of requirements




1. People claim they don't understand what's assigned to them in the plan, but then they also say there isn't enough
time for the team to spend some hours planning. So what to do???

2. It was not good in the first half of the semester but after MOSP things are finally going in the right direction.




1. This is actually better this week than it has been for the entire project, but still not acceptable. This weeks' tasks
were planned at the beginning of the week and only next week's tasks are planned. Each cycle no matter how much
time it takes, the team has to agree on tasks to do for the cycle, and then individuals adjust their individual plans to
decide in what order they'll work on the tasks.
2. MOSP postmortem was a very productive meeting. Tasks for this week and forth coming weeks are getting close
to be well defined.

3. . I haven't finished creating prototypings. I need to ask Abhi about data framework and so on.
1. I'm not aware of quality standards and we don't have a practice of reviewing artifacts currently. Also, we've
identified the need for better entry/exit criteria, but that hasn't come into practice yet. (I also tried using goal and
entry and exit criteria for a planning meeting agenda over a month ago, but my strategy for leading the meeting was
superceded by those who had their opinions of how the meeting should go once it got underway.

2. No entry/exit criteria defined.
3. Though we informally do this, we need to further formalize the entry and exit criteria process and also the review
process.

4. I do not think entry and exit creteria have not fully defined.




1. We did work on some goals, but not sure if we ever cleared them up after getting feedback on the mentors about
changing them. Also, in the past we had talked about everyone always being online, available from IM (GTalk or
Skype), but only some people are consistently on. IN addition, not everyone responds to emails that clearly require a
response. The team may be motivated to do a good job, but I suspect morale is low. At least mine is, as I constantly
feel the sum of the parts is GREATER than the whole, which is exactly opposite of the benefit you're supposed to get

2. Yuki must get a cell phone and must be more proactive in responding to emails. We really need to believe in the
team and think positively and should display confidence.




1. Need to look at overall plan to see what we can actually finish by the end of the semester.

2. Don't think project process (adherence to it?) is being tracked at all. status updates.

3. We are starting to improve on weekly.

4. The plan still have problems, and hard to get the accurate information from the report of process dashboard.

5. I truly appreciate Planning manager's efforts that have finally made planning & tracking to be on track.


I'm yet to complete my tasks related to quality manager i.e. defining quality standards for artifacts to be delivered
this semester.




1. Quality has the lowest score, we need not only control artifacts, but the tasks we work on.

2. We start measuring our tasks with entry and exit criteria.

I see a formation of internal groups and lack of knowledge sharing equally with every one in the team. Also, it would
be good to write down every minor to major thought as and when it occurs (like a tutorial) so that it becomes easy
for others to understand the intent and rationale, especially when team members fail to communicate effectively.
Meetins report hasn't been included. Two commons:

Please involve every one when fixing up formal or informal meetings and take every one's schedule into account
while fixing up meetings. Also, make sure each one knows exactly when and what time. A lot of confusion occurs
because of constant cancellations and lack of confirmation that every one has been taken into account.

1. Jeff suggested to create google calendar, but nobody answered.

2. Try to take everyone's schedule into account, but hard, and it's also hard to involve every one in every meeting.
3. Cancellation happens when the meeting time conflicts with other schedules, such as recitation. Some concellation
because not everyone came to meeting on time.


7.4: I'd like to see everyone participate more evenly so it's not the same 1 or 2 people talking all the time. 7.5: I'm
not totally satisfied with the status meetings, since we have been uncertain what our mentors want to see, rather
than being able to focus on what we need to discuss. Hopefully looking at our EV reports will prove useful to both
mentors and us.




Great Job with Processes. All the meetings have entry , exit criteria defined, i'm maintaining entry and exit criteria for
my individual tasks, TSP cycle launches and postmortems are getting to fall in place




SAD has helped a lot with requirements understanding




3.2 Not all of the team members track time as what we agreed.

We need to Re-plan our next cycle
Plan should be realistic so that we could actually track our progress. Currently, everybody is overtasked. And it is
possible that we will work on something that we are not assigned to, and the tasks we are responsible remains open
and unattended. This is the time to replan. And I feel is must be done quickly, without any rigorous discussions.




Quality Standards are now in place. Entry exit criteria are being followed to the best possible extent


6.1 I don't think every team member works towards the goals we defined. 6.2 It's hard to reach consensus in team
members.

Communication is getting better. Some, but not all email are being responded on time. We could still improve on this
We are doing great job with meetings We should also discuss the last meeting evaluation results.




1. It hink we are still following the process; it is just now is the difficult time to move on due to technical difficulty
(Jazz and Eclipse).

3.Liked that we did some ACDM activities to get the experiments moving. In general, would like
strictly using the TSPi and ACDM templates exactly as given, rather than remove parts or add supplemental
documents and templates to use. We need to use the process' templates before we can objectively claim that it is
"not enough", etc. Especially, for TSPi, we need to take advantage that because it is so structured, we don't need to
waste time learning other template formats or figuring out the steps - these are so consistently layed out by Watts


1.Explaining requirements in terms of the architecture is effective.

2.Architectural evaluation with client really helped everyone to understand the requirements. I'm happy to see the
clients happy.
3.I think we all know it is somewhat bad that we don't have an SRS (it is embedded in the SAD!!!) and that we are
only beginning to think about getting it straightened out with the clients. THis is one of the reasons why we all have
different understanding of the project - we never started with a simple SRS and built on top of it, but then some
team member(s) are building an extemely detailed SAD, which in industry could never happen without having a
functional requirements document that was semi-stable (yes requirements can continually change, but that is no
excuse not to document and track them - in fact that is all the more reason they need to be strictly controlled -

2.Needs will straighten out the semester plan this coming launch (but only by default will it address the "semester"
since the new cycle will cover the remaining 3 or 4 weeks of the semester. 2. I think most of us are tracking our times
just fine. But I'm concerned not all of us are and I don't believe that given our workloads, it's possible to only back-fill
times at set times (weekly only?) even semi-accurately. One of the main reasons for the tool is that it all but
eliminates the typical overhead that people in general complain about in tracking their time - this does it
automatically for you, so there is no excuse for not accurately tracking all of our time. You don't need to even be
connected to the VPN to track your time in the dashboard as long as the task is already there. (If not there, write
down your start and stop times for a task and enter it in the WBS as soon as you can connect to the VPN). 3. In
hindsight, one way to track our progress would have been to be better in defining and tracking our milestones. Since
the dashboard's milestone feature still is missing features (a simple report of actual vs. planned completion date),

1. quality standard is difficult to come up with. I need to look into both bhanu's script and TSP script

2. Good job to the Team Lead in making entry/exit criteria part of the meeting agenda standard template. For tasks
in the WBS, we need to figure out how to better ensure we do this. We could start by simply using the Notes feature
and during cycle launches, detail entry and exit criteria for the tasks assigned to the cycle. 3. N/A, other than for the
meetings, which was good.

Got more value out of Issue Deposition Doc meeting than any previous discussions of recent memory. (Maybe it's
not coincidence that that is part of the process - these processes prescribe specific things like meetings and
templates for a reason - so we avoid the mistakes they made and let us learn from them and do things that will make

2.Two comments: 1. Meeting agendas need to be sent out earlier, but that's just explaining why my scores are not
even higher - we already addressed this a few days ago, and actually it's not just the Team Lead's responsibility - we
all need to help the lead out and contribute to topic ideas for the agenda (although admittedly this can be tough
sometimes, since it can take time to stop and think about that, and already our direct time is limited, as seen directly
by all the LOE/overhead tasks in the dashboard and what little remaining direct time it leaves out of our 12
hours/week). 2. The meeting agenda for Saturday's (4/11/09) meeting changed at the meeting - so we weren't
notified in advance that it was for the issue deposition meeting. It might have helped to be able to prepare for that
instead, but as I commented above, it turned out that meeting was extremely beneficial, regardless.




1. Process seems to be getting a little complicated with standards that aren't exactly the ones used by TSPi (or given
by TSPi but slightly altered for a good reason). I still think there's a good amount of TSPi we aren't doing that we
should at least try (and alter if necessary), but adding on non-TSPi processes and standards where TSPi has an
equivalant doesn't make sense and only complicates our lives trying to understand the differences.

3. I am can see the positive serge for improving the process. We have been good at the product front, and I am
happy to see that we've improved our processes tool.




1. We still need to be clear what can be done by the end of this semester.
2. We all know what needs to get done in the next 2+ weeks, but we still need to assess what we can actually do and
get our tasks and schedules and WBS straightened out for the next 2 weeks.

2. Entry and exit criteria are good for the meetings, but we need to do it for the WBS tasks still.
1. For the past few meetings, we lacked preparation for the meetings and people came late, which caused the
meeting prolonged and failed to meet our goals.

Since Cycle 3 postmortem, there has been tremendous improvement




Requirements have become completely stable since we and our client's share the same understanding




Planning could've been better




1. There are so many small tasks and action items to be done that it's hard to get anything done since it seems like
everything is equally top priority and needs to get done right away. Multitasking in general does not work, but it's
hard to concentrate on any one task when it seems like everything has to get done right away. (Having the action
items in RTC, with the due date, does at least help for the action items, so I can be sure I get mine done before their
due date, but still I have a ton of tasks from the WBS that are all equally important and being asked for by the team).


2. We are pretty clear as to what has to be done in these two weeks




1. Other than several small action items, there aren't a lot of new tasks being added at this point to which we can
start adding entry and exit criteria as we informally agreed to start doing. I'm concerned that sending all of our tasks
to the Quality/Process Manager along with the entry and exit criteria is going to create a lot of extra overhead for all
of us. By the time we each gather our list of tasks along with the entry and exit criteria, it will probably be pretty clear
to each one of us whether we met them at that point, so having to gather this all and send out seems unnecessary at

2. every one's working towards entry and exit criteria compliance.
1. I'm concerned about team communication and collaboration. We seem to have several members working on the
SRS (and one on the one embedded in the SAD; another on the initial external version, and neither coordinating with
each other), even though the task assignments should be driven from the WBS. If the task one is going to work on is
not assigned to them, then they need to coordinate with whomever is currently assigned the task so there is no

2. We defined goals for cycle 4, that helped.



1.Sometimes it seems that not everyone is fully engaged and paying attention in the meetings, or they are having
side-conversations. If we all do not need to be there, then the meeting should be set up tha way. Otherwise, we
should all be contributing and listening during the meeting and if we don't understand something, ask questions.

2. the team is well prepared in terms of sending agenda ahead of time client meetings should not always be cheif
3. Not every one gets to participate equally in the meeting. I think all the
architect's centric. Others should get a chance too, that ways other would probably get an opportunity to learn,
though i understand it is because of the time crunch and no other reason, but still there could be a better way to
handle client meetings and most of the other meetings as well.
