					Standard Addressed: Phonological and Phonemic Awareness Literacy Competency:
Blend beginning sound (onset) with ending sound (rime) to form known words in
rhyming word families (k-it, s-it, b-it)

Materials:           Student Record Sheet

Directions:          The teacher says, “If I say /m/ /ad/, I know the word is mad. What
                     would the word be if I say /b/ /ox/?” Say the sound for each letter or
                     cluster of letters, not the letter name, at approximately ½ second intervals.
                     Administer both practice items, and then administer all of the task items
                     below.

Practice:            For the practice items, refer to the directions given above. For the practice
                     items only, if the child does not know how to pronounce the word, the
                     teacher should say, “That’s not quite right. The word is ______.”

                     Practice Item #1:                f-ox (fox)
                     Practice Item #2:                g-um (gum)

Scoring:             Score 1 point if the student says the word correctly. Score 0 points for an
                     incorrect response.
