2.7.2 How to make a Booking
Bookings should be made by contacting your admin/logistics unit.
All rail travel must be booked in advance through the appointed business
travel supplier. Claims should not be made through expenses except for
emergency last minute unavoidable travel bookings.
Except where essential, open tickets should be avoided.
2.7.3 Class of Service
Normally domestic (i.e. within the UK) rail travel will be in standard class
except when Police Regulations allow for Officers of the rank of
Superintendent and above, to travel First Class on trains. However, officers
should take into consideration the cost and the overarching principle of
travelling in the most cost effective manner.
Police staff at SM grades and above may travel First Class on trains.
However, staff should take into consideration the cost and the overarching
principle of travelling in the most cost effective manner.
In exceptional circumstances where there is a business requirement, officers
below the rank of Superintendent and Police staff below SM grade may travel
First Class with the prior approval of their Head of Dept or Area Commander.
If travel is cancelled and the rail journey is no longer required, the member of
staff must notify the admin/logistics unit who booked the travel immediately
and return the ticket to them so that the appointed business travel supplier
can be contacted to arrange for a refund of the ticket.
