Accessing E-Books
(Every E-Book owned by Guelph/Water/Laurier Universities have been included in
Primo. A link titled “Available Online” appears in your PRIMO listing , located just
under the title in the listing)
However, there are a number electronic books available to our students through the
University Library site. To access these books:
1. Go to our library website.
http://www.kemptvillec.uoguelph.ca/library/main.htm
2. Click on “Electronic Resources” link under “Library Services”. Select E-Books from the
list of options. This page will appear.
3. There are two specific options (from a list of several e-book vendors) that provide
e-books of interest to our students – NetLibrary or MyLibrary. Select NetLibrary from
the list of options. You will see the following screen.
4. You are able to create a free account within NetLibrary which allows you to check books
out and read them over a period of a couple of days. You’ll see a “Create a Free
Account” button on the top right side of the screen. Come and see me if you need help
creating your account.
5. However, today we’re just going to do a search and view a book, and perhaps print a
couple of pages.
6. I’m going to type “nutrition” into the basic search box and press the “Search” button.
7. Here is a list of books containing the word “nutrition”.
8. I’ve decided I would like to view the book titled: “Keeping fit for life”. To do so I
clicked on the “view this book” link. If you choose to just “view this book”, you can do
so for a couple of hours.
9. Go to the appropriate page within the e-book for an area of interest for you. You
can locate pages of interest in an e-book in the same way that you do in a print
format. Either look at the index or click on a chapter of interest through the table
of contents. (If the list of chapter titles are not readily listed on the left side of the
screen – click the +sign under the table of contents and the chapter list will
expand.)
10. You may print specific pages by clicking on the print icon in the tool bar located
just above the pages. You may navigate from one page to the next by clicking on
the “Next” button (on tool bar just above book) or inputting a page number in the
“Page” box.
