MEMPHIS BLUES
(W.C.HANDY)
Folks, I've just been down, down to Memphis town,
That's where the people smile, smile on your all awhile.
A hospitality they were good to me,
I couldn't spend a dime and had the greatest time,
I went out to dancing with the Tennessee dear,
They had a fellow named Handy with the band you should hear.
And while the folks gently sway all the boys begin to play real harmony.
I never will forget the tune they call Handy's Memphis Blues.
They've got a trumpet man leading a band,
And, folks, he sure blows the horn,
And when he growled it second to the trombone's c1ue-
It moaned just like a sinner on Revival Day.
That melancholy strain that ever haunting refrain
Is like a mourning sorrow song,
Here comes the every part that wraps a spell around my heart,
It sets me wild to hear that loving tune again, those Memphis Blues.
MR.PAGANINI
(S.COSLOW)
The concert is over in Carnegie Hall,
The maestro shoots a bow after bow.
He says: “My dear friends, i have given my all,
I'm sorry- It's all over now .”
When from the balcony way up high
There suddenly came a mournful cry:
Oh, Mr. Paganini, please, play my rhapsody,
And if you cannot play it, won't you sing it?
And if you can't sing it you simply have to...
Listen, Paganini, we breathlessly await,
Your masterful baton go on and sling it,
And if you can't sling it you simply have to...
We heard your repertoire and at the final bar
We greeted you with a round of applause
But what a great ovation your interpretation
Of “I never cared much for moonlit skies, I never winked back it.
fire- flies” would do.
So, Paganini, don't you be a meanie
What' have you up your sleeve, come on and string it!
And if you can't string it simply have to swing it.
ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK
(J.DeKNIGHT, M.FREEDMAN)
One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock rock,
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock rock,
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock rock,
We gonna rock around the clock tonight!
When the clock strikes one join the hand
And have some fun when the clock strikes one
Refrain: We gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We gonna rock-rock-rock till the broad day light
And gonna rock and gonna rock all' round the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes two, three and four,
Then the band will yell for more.
Refrain.
When the chimes ring five, six and seven
We'll divide it seventh heaven.
When it takes nine, ten, eleven, too
How we go and sprung and so were you.
Refrain.
When the clock strikes twelve we feel on dance
To the rock around the clock again.
Refrain.
