WV Content Standards

                             Students will
                                    model a respect for symbols, ideas and concepts of the United States and analyze the
                                     roles of significant individuals (Respect For People, Events, and Symbols).
                                    develop and employ the civic skills necessary for effective citizenship by using criteria
                                     to make judgments, arrive at and defend positions and evaluate the validity of the

Instructional Objectives:   At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to


                                1.   Define what the meaning of civil rights is


                                2.   Understand the importance of the civil rights movement


                                3.   Be able to make judgments about the different styles of protest that occurred during the

                                  4.        Identify leaders of the civil rights movement and make judgments about events that
                                            occurred during the civil rights movement and how they influenced today’s society.


                                  5.        Students will also develop an understanding of what it means to be an

                                        effective citizen.

                                  6.        Define what a Podcast is.


                                  7.        Articulate the benefits of podcasting within the context of a project-based, multimodal
                                            learning activity.


                                  8.        List digital skills podcasting requires and relate them to technology standards for
                                            students.


                                             Digital Literacy Skills possibly developed through podcasting including: comparison,
                                             sequencing, defend positions, social studies objective, research skills, internet skills,
                                                              data collection, summarization, and speaking skills.

                                    podcasting relates to technology standards.

Closure/Conclusion            The activity ends with a discussion of how to develop a Podcast and how a Podcast can be used
                              to organize, demonstrate and deliver information to an audience.
