REVIEW SHEET
A. Regulation volleyball: Score-21 points, 6 players & net is 8 feet high
B. Rules:
a. The ball can be hit 3 times per side
b. A player can hit the ball twice as long as it is not in a row
c. When 2 players hit he ball at the same time it counts as one hit
d. When 2 opposing players hit the ball at the same time it counts as NO hit
for either team
e. Play the ball off the net. It is allowed to hit the net on the serve
f. On a spike, hand can go over top of net but can’t touch the net
g. Cannot spike on a serve
h. Net can not be touched while playing the ball
i. A player cannot cross under the net
j. If the ball accidentally hits a part of the body other than the hands it counts
as a hit. If it is done deliberately the team loses the serve and a point is
scored against them
C. Score:
a. Each team can score on every serve
b. If a team scores while serving, then they continue to serve. If the non-
serving team scores the point , they will rotate and begin to serve
c. A team must win by 2 points
D. Serve:
a. From the right hand corner
b. From out-of- bounds or behind the base line
c. Only 1 try to get ball over the net
d. Serve can be served underhand, sidearm or overhand
E. Rotation:
a. Clockwise
b. Front line players rotate to the right and back line players rotate to the left.
The front right player will become the new server when the team rotates
F. Boundary Lines:
a. All lines are good and inbounds
b. Poles or standards and all fixtures are out of bounds
G. Strategies
a. Spike-hitting the ball downward into the opponent’s court with great force
b. Block- arms straight trying to stop the ball as it crosses over the net
c. Set-up- with finger tips you put the ball up into the air for a teammate to
play
d. Assists-front line player has his back to the net and taps the ball
backwards over the net
e. Dig- fists, foot, and forearms are used to hit the ball over the net or to set
up another player
