In the 1980s there was an attempt to expand the CUSIP system for
international securities as well. The resulting CINS (CUSIP

introduced at about the same time as the truly international ISIN
system. CINS identifiers do appear in the ISIDPlus directory, however

Basket Constituent This has an identity which can be almost anything,
since sub types of this includes baskets of
securities and baskets of indices. In the sense
intended here, a Basket is simply a special kind of
collection. Properties of the Constituent include the
percentage or amount of each constituent as part
of the basket. Note that these are defined for the
specific types of constituent, there are unlikely to
be necessary common facts that apply to all types
                                         of constituent.

The basket may be a basket of almost anything. It
differs from a less formal collection in that there are
facts defined about the constituents and the
                                         proportions of these.

one index, not a basket of securities.

the contract, and the item which is deliverable upon
expiry or exercise of the contract. These are
usually the same item but in some cases such as
index derivatives the exercise takes a different

Negotiable Commodity AND REVIEW: there may be more kinds of things we
Basket have not identified, and it is possible that this is
defined too specifically at present, e.g. rather than
introducing new kinds of weather or insurance
related variables we need to define a more general
term which encompasses all this. The relevant
term may itself seem very abstract.

An exchange traded derivative is a product offered
by the exchange, whereby the investor chooses to
invest in that option and it then becomes a contract
between them and the exchange. In this sense this
is not the same as an Equity listing, and the facts
about equities ot other exchange traded products
listings do not apply to a derivatives listing.

or derivative instruments: Cash instruments are
financial instruments whose value is determined
directly by markets. They can be divided into
securities, which are readily transferable, and other
cash instruments such as loans and deposits,
where both borrower and lender have to agree on

instruments which derive their value from the value
and characteristics of one or more underlying
assets. They can be divided into exchange-traded
                                     derivatives and over-the-counter (OTC)
                                     derivatives. Alternatively, financial instruments
can be categorized by "asset class" depending on
whether they are equity based (reflecting
ownership of the issuing entity) or debt based
(reflecting a loan the investor has made to the
issuing entity). If it is debt, it can be further
categorized into short term (less than one year) or
long term. Foreign Exchange instruments and
transactions are neither debt nor equity based and

securities or specific to debt? Jan 10 (TR Review):
This needs further thought around primary v
                                     secondary.
Typically where there is a debt issue of securities
with different raniking (precedence), the series
number identifies this individual security within that
issue. For equity: different classes. Equity "Class"
is equivalent to e debt "Series". So Class A shares:
A is the equivalent to this Series. What about
options and so on. Option series is a specific set of
calls and puts on the same underlying with the
same strike price in the same expiraqtion date.
which is a very different meaning. e.g. all ABC July
puts = an option series. ACTION Move this term
                                    to specific different semantics.

Known as Article 8 in the NY Jurisdiction. This is
relevant locally (like Reg S and 144A), would not
                                    be relevant in all cases.
This term arises from issuance process reviews
with DTCC and Bill Nichols. There is also a FIBIM-
derived term "Registered (yes/no) which is likely
                                    the same meaning.

This is not the same as the date for the initial issue
and settlement of the security in the primary

This term is defined as the common concept which
brings together MBS deals, Bond With Warrant
issues, MTN issues and so on, along with issues of
more than one class of share in an equities issue.
Many detailed terms have been provided for
specific types of issue, most notably Municipal
bond issues (from DTCC) and MBS issues from
the MBS PoC project. Some of those terms will
apply more widely to issues as a whole (like Issuer)
while some will not. This may require further
                          review.
Production
Security Issuer We already have a legal derivation for the term
Issuer, for asecurity, as being the principal party to
the contract which is that security. However, where
there is an issue or deal with more than one
security issued, the issuer is identified as being a
party to the overall "Deal" that gives rise to the
issue, and so is therefore a party to that also. The
deal is not modeled as a transaction but rather as a
kind of "Production", so the semantics of "Is issuer"
is introduced here with reference to being the
Issuer of the Securoity and therefore the principal
party to any and all securities contracts set up
under the deal. Modeling Note: The hierarchy of
"Issuer" for each type of security is already
modeled semantically as derived from the
relationship "Security issuer Security Issuer", so
rather than break this chain, we identify the "Issuer"
or each "Deal" with relation both to this relationship
and the corresponding security issuer relation,
since the latter already has clear semantics. This
could in a future version be modeled as a multi-
                                       way relationship using transitice relationships.

The pool may be a pool of almost anything,
brought together for some purpose. It differs from a
less formal collection in that there are facts defined
about the constituents and the proportions of these
in the pool. Modeling note: A constituent of a pool
may have facts which vary over time (such as
balances) but the basic nature of the thing as a
member of the pool remains the same, along with
some facts which vary over time but which have a
value as of the time they become members of the

This would normally be held by participants in that
pool. For example, the pool might be a fund or a
debt SPV which is formed by each of the
participants extending credit to that pool and
holding bond units in the pool representing that
debt. Most recent iteration of the model

time i.e. a dated term (Debt), and debt issued or

but labeled otherwise in this model). The present
term appears to fall under the latter category of
term. Or the term may now be redundant.

otherwise in this model). This relationship would
relate the former kind of debt, i.e. the balance of
the debt at a point in time, to the Debtor. Or the

TR Review 22 April 2010: Review - is this fact
about all kinds of security, or just equities? For
example, Debt is fractional by definition becuse it's
a currency denominated security, then this term
either as yes or no cannot apply to debt. so it must

Term is specific to DTCC / US context. Is there a
more generic meaning similar to this which applies
across different jurisdictions? If not this term should
be defined with reference to this specific context.

Currency This is a risk specific term identified during SME
Reviews of common securities terms. It was
agreed at a review with a risk firm that this term is
applicable within the context of risk management
only and is not a fundamental fact about the
security. It therefore needs to be disposed in some
way to show it in the context of risk.

Transferable Contract Holder
Autonomous Entity The holder of a security is effectively the
counterparty in a contract, so this would normally
be a Legal Entity however in principle any person,
legal entity, organization etc. may be a holder of a
security. The outcome of this thinking is that since
any security is a contract and any party to a
contract must be a legal entity, we should respect
and reflect this logic here. In principal if someone
holds a security who is not a legal entity (e.g. a
minor) this is generally held in trust by some entity
which is. Therefore this term is correct as it
                            stands.

to another. Review Q: Does that vary according to

the physical thing is provided? A: the latter - it's
more the way the underlying is traded. So this will
be facts relating to the spot market in those things.
Modeling note: The above question allows us to
identify whether these facts are facts about
"Underlying" specifically, or facts about noeogitable
commodities. These are all facts about negotiable
comodities since that's what the spot market is.
The concept of "Underlying" will therefore be
modeled as a separate concept to this one.
