Wedding Music Checklist for Couples

Holy Cross Church, Columbus Ohio

1. E-mail the organist at Holy Cross, Kelly Doman, at keladom@insight.rr.com, with the following

information:

a. Name of Bride and Groom

b. Date and Time of Wedding

c. E-mail and telephone numbers

d. Indicate whether a mass or ceremony only

2. Kelly will e-mail the pages to be used in selecting your ceremony music, please print these pages and

bring them with you to the consultation.

3. Using the suggested websites or Amazon mp3 files or YouTube or similar site, listen to recordings of the

vocal and instrumental music. This should help you to narrow your choices and allow you the luxury of

listening at your leisure while helping you to not feel overwhelmed by the wide variety of choices

available.

4. Schedule a music consultation at least 2 months before the wedding, though earlier than that is

acceptable as well. Music consultations take place on a mutually agreed upon Sunday morning at the end

of the first mass (around 10 am) to meet, discuss, play additional excerpts and finalize your musical

choices.

5. A cantor will be needed to sing the psalm, alleluia, mass parts, hymns, solos etc. We have several

recommendations for excellent cantors that are talented and experienced. A separate fee (usually $200)

must be sent to him/her once you have chosen someone.

6. Alternately, if you have a friend or relative who has cantored in the Catholic church that would like to sing

for your wedding then a rehearsal with organist and soloist will be scheduled prior to the wedding. For

weddings at Holy Cross Church the organists’ fees are paid by the funds you have already paid to the

church. However, vocalists new to us will require additional rehearsal time and therefore additional fees.

These additional fees would also be applicable if you should choose to add a trumpet, flute, violin or other

musician for the ceremony.

7. All musical compositions and composers are listed on the music pages so that you can easily put together

your wedding program. It is recommended that you type out the words of the Psalm Refrain as well as the

text of any hymns you use since Holy Cross keeps the hymnals in stacks by the doors rather than in the

pews.

8. You have completed the wedding music selection process and can look forward to a beautiful and

musically rich ceremony to start your married life!
