Presentation Tips
Some useful tips for your presentation next week
Dress Professionally- as you would present at a workplace
Your presentation is only an overview of your Research. You do not need to cover each
detail
Only bullet points on slides that can be expanded upon in explanation. No paragraphs of
information on slides. Slides should only have cues to further expand upon in your
presentation.
Don’t use fancy design or colours on slides, keep them simple and professional
Avoid using “Umms” and “Aaarrrs” and other fillers such as “you know”
Can use “cue cards” to help you in case you forget something, however don’t use big sheets
of paper and don’t read from slides or your notes.
Try to make it interactive and interesting by
o asking a question to the audience OR
o showing a related video OR
o by talking about a recent newspaper article related to your topic
o doing a survey
o involving the audience in some way
o doing an activity
Maintain Eye contact with every member of the audience
Use Body Language
Use the floor- don’t stand at one place
The attention of audience should be on you and not on the slides. So if you want to explain
something and using slides is not important then you can press the “B” key on keyboard, this
will make the slide bland and you can press “B” again to bring it back on
Practice, Be Prepared!
Smile and be Confident
