A Poetry Book Dedicated to Your Mother
(or another special lady that you celebrate on Mother’s Day!)
Shhhh… this is for Mother’s Day – don’t spoil the surprise!
For our poetry unit, we will be looking at a variety of poetic forms and trying them out to
create a special poetry book that will be dedicated to someone special for Mother’s Day.
(In the assignment, that “special person” will always be referred to as “your mom”.
Please adapt as necessary.)
**Make sure that you keep all of your work during the unit (even the poems and practice
exercises that don’t go into the poetry book) so that you can get credit for the writing
process as well as the final product.
Begin with the end in mind….
For your final product in your poetry book, you will have:
A front and a back cover suitable for your poetry book. **Please create original
art (don’t simply cut and paste an image from the computer)
A dedication page
The following poems:
Bio Poem
Happiness Poem
White Poem
A combination of at least 5 other types of poems from the “Writing Fun” website
& our poetry practice booklet.
Your poems will:
Have perfect spelling, capitalization & punctuation (if necessary)
Be neatly displayed to the best advantage on each page.
Have creative, original artistic details
