Diwali Gift Ideas: Traditional Or Contemporary

Come October and its a time to rejoice, a time for celebrations. Indians all over wait for celebrations and

Diwali is one such occasion when India from the North to the south, from east to the west is celebrating in

one spirit- the spirit of victory over the evil. The celebration for this grand festival starts two to three

weeks before the onset of the festival. In fact families plan for gifts for Diwali in the beginning of the

year.

Celebrations for Diwali can be traditional or contemporary. But most families and individuals like to keep

the celebrations with the traditional touch that’s the essence of being an Indian. The rituals during the

festival vary according to region. However, offering of prayers and worshipping Lakshmi, the Goddess of

wealth and prosperity, and Ganesha, the remover of obstacles is common to all Hindu households.

Besides spring-cleaning the house to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, Diwali is a time for gifting. People

exchange gifts on Diwali as a sign of respect, love, thankfulness, appreciation and togetherness.

Gifting brings in the excitement of shopping too. Diwali gifts can be anything from chocolates, to clothes,

to sweets to electronic items, toys to books. But with most families settled far and wide as nuclear

families, getting together to share the joys of gifting is not always possible. Online stores are a boon in

such circumstances. It meets the challenges of the keeping the families together during such celebrations.

Online shopping in India or from any location across the globe, gives one the opportunity to gift ones

near and dear ones with traditional or contemporary gifts. The traditional Diwali gifts that are available in

online shopping stores include small idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha to bring in luck and prosperity,

candle holders in silver, Puja thalis, set of diyas or earthen lamps, sweets, dry fruits, hampers, crackers,

lakshmi gold and silver coins & others. One can even shop for gold & diamond jewellery, gold coins in 22k

and 24k, silver pooja articles from online shopping portals for Dhanteras.

The rapid changes in lifestyle, nuclear families staying far and wide, growth in technology, and the variety

of Diwali gift ideas available online has made sending gifts online a very popular option. It not only

saves the time the effort of shopping, but also helps to be connected to the family for every occasion.
