Newspaper Book Report
Newspaper Book Report

Due October 31, 2007

You will be creating a newspaper to actual size (13.5 x 22 inches) or larger, if

necessary. It may be completed on one side only, or as a few pages like a true

newspaper. The newspaper will include the following items, which are described

below: title/name of newspaper and date, summary article, character article,

advice column, book review, advertisement, as well as one “extra” item. All of the

space should be filled, as would a true newspaper. Remember that all items must

relate directly to your book.

Title/Name of Newspaper and Date

Create a title for your newspaper. It can be related to the book, your name, the

class, your school, and so on. Below the title, please include the title and author of

the actual book. Also, list a date for the newspaper appropriate to the time period

of the book. Please write your name on the back of the newspaper.

Summary Article

Create and include a headline that relates to the summary. Write a summary of

your book in paragraph format. Since this is a newspaper article, remember to

answer who, what, where, why, and when. Also, please remember that you are not

rewriting the book. Include only the most important parts of the plot in your

summary.

Character Article

Write and include information in paragraph format about both the main character

and the antagonist. Don’t forget to include a headline for this article, as well. You

may choose to do the character article in one piece or two (main character and

antagonist). Describe the character, their actions, personality traits, etc. Include

a picture of the main character and antagonist. This may be an action or a still

shot and should include a caption.

Advice Column

Pretend the main character wrote a short letter to a newspaper advice columnist

seeking advice about the major problem your character faces in the story. Create

an assumed name for your character to use to sign his or her letter. Then write a

response from the columnist that reflects how the problem was solved. Make it

look like an advice column including a title.

Book Review

Write a review for the book you read. Explain your likes and dislikes including

reasoning. To whom would you recommend this book and why? Create an

appropriate headline for your book review.

Create an advertisement for a product that relates in some way to the book.

Remember to include a product or company name and some type of graphics.

Extra Item

Include one more item that relates to your story. You may choose from a comic

strip, want ads, a puzzle (crossword, word search, riddle), weather report,

obituary, or an idea of your own. This is the spot to really let your creative juices

flow! Just be sure that it directly relates to your story or its characters.
