TOPIC OVERVIEW AUTUMN 1
We will begin Year 1 by continuing the topic ‘Sun, Sand and Sea’. This 2 week
topic aims for the children to feel settled and confident in their new environment.
The English focus for this will be sharing and exploring the book “The Sea Horse”.
The topic will then be Toy Story where the children will investigate old and new toys
using laptops and design and construct their own toy car in DT.

OUTCOME
The children will set up a toy museum to display their cars and hold a car race. They
will also perform a dance and demonstrate popular playground chants and games.
This will be performed to parents at the end of this half-term. The homework project
will be to make a home for a toy of their choice e.g. using a shoebox to create a sea
area for a mermaid.
