A classic children’s book turns 70! The famous Hans Fallada

STORIES FROM THE MURKELEI by Hans GESCHICHTEN

Fallada have fascinated generations of readers. Now AUS DER

1947. THE MURKELEI

Originally written for his children as bedtime stories, the Illustrated by

tales by Hans Fallada were first published in 1938. The Conrad Neubauer

stories are filled with fantastic things: talking animals, 2008, 208 pp.

wizards, villains, unlucky fellows, dancing stars and

magic caps. Beside all these exciting adventures the tales have an educational

intention. They encourage the ones who are frightened, the braggart is mocked

and the unreflecting ones are taught to think. But their most important message

is to honour life and to explore the world with fantasy.

The adorable and timeless illustrations by Conrad Neubauer from 1947 haven’t lost their charm.
