The Restaurants – Inspectors reports
Restaurant A
“The restaurant had an outside seating area where, we found a large rubbish
skip not too far from this. There were about six customers sitting in this
area eating.
Once inside we observed the general cleanliness of the eating area. We
found it to be quite clean. We then had a look at the kitchen. There we
found a rubbish bin that was over flowing. The head chef had cut his finger
whilst we were there, we never saw him put a plaster on this. We witnessed
another chef sneezing several times without covering her mouth. We also
observed that on at least two occasions, a waiter had dropped some garlic
bread, and this was immediately placed back on the plate and taken to the
dining area. We checked the temperatures of the large fridge freezers. The
fridge was 5oC and the freezer was –10oC”.
Restaurant B
“We found the dining area of this restaurant to be very clean. The kitchen
just as clean, with posters on display reminding staff to regularly wash their
hands when handling food. A chef cut her finger whilst chopping some onions.
We observed her immediately washing her hands and then placing a blue
plaster on the cut. We took temperature readings of their fridge freezers.
The fridge was 4oC, and the freezer –18oC.
Restaurant C
“The first thing we noticed when we entered this restaurant was that the
cutlery for the customers was not very clean. Several knives had dried on
food on them. The waitresses with long hair did not tie their hair back. We
also spotted a mouse running across the restaurant floor.
In the kitchen we found a pile of plates that had not been washed, near the
food preparation area. We did not see anyone wash their hands the whole
time we were there. We witnessed the head chef scratch his head several
times, whilst preparing some salads. He did not wear any gloves.
The kitchen fire exit door was left open. This door led out to an alleyway,
where there were eight very large rubbish skips that were overflowing with
rubbish. The smell of rotting rubbish in the alleyway was overwhelming. We
saw three rats scurrying around in the rubbish.
We took fridge freezer temperature readings. The freezer was not working,
and we were told that the frozen food had been transferred over to the
fridge. The fridge temperature was 11oC”.
